July is UV awareness month As many of us know, the overexposure to UV rays from the sun during the summer months can cause severe skin and eye injuries, including sunburn, skin cancer, cataracts, macular degeneration, and growths on our eyes - including cancer. In the continental U.S., the hours between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. are the most hazardous for UV exposure and are at their greatest intensity during the late spring and early summer. To reduce your risks, it's important to wear broad spectrum sunscreen to protect against UVA, & UVB rays. UVA rays pe*****te deep into the layers of the skin and lead to premature signs of aging, which include fine lines and wrinkles. UVB rays are the primary cause of sunburn, thickening of the skin, and several types of skin cancers - including melanoma. Make sure to look for 100% UV protection sunblock that blocks both UVA and UVB rays. Protect your eyes with sunglasses and a hat when outside. Never look directly at the sun. Stay safe this summer and enjoy your time outside. Just remember to stay hydrated, properly cover yourself in sunscreen and limit your time in the sun.

Happy New Year!! We hope that 2022 is your best year yet. As we enter the new year, many people will begin with resolutions. Most resolutions tend to lead towards health such as, quitting smoking or weight loss. As many begin their new lifestyles, we want to be able to assist! Quitting smoking can be difficult but rewarding. Not only for your health but also your wallet. When you stop smoking, your brain and body have to get use to not having ni****ne. Some uncomfortable symptoms include anxiety, difficulties with sleep, unable to concentrate and occasional mood swings. This is called withdrawal. Overtime, these will begin to fade, as long as your refrain from smoking. Things that can help with reducing symptoms or cravings include: taking walks, going to the gym, chewing gum, spending time with friends, or speaking with your physician about medications to assist. We highly recommend checking out www.tobaccofreeflorida.com to gain additional information on how to quit smoking. If you'd like assistance with medications or additional information, feel free to contact our office.

November is National COPD Awareness Month and today is World COPD Day. At 2pm today (all local times), take a deep breath-an action many of us take for granted but something many people with COPD struggle to do.
Fun lung facts: 1. Lungs are the only organs that can float on water 2. You lose 0.59 ounces of water per hour due to exhalation. But you lose four times that amount during exercise. Which is why drinking water is so important. 3. You breath in and out about 22,000 times a day!

Can't sleep? Your insomnia may be triggered by the food and substances you are consuming, such as alcohol, caffeine, ni****ne, and eating heavy meals close to bedtime.

Respironics PAP Machine Recall
On April 26, 2021, Philips provided an important update regarding proactive efforts to address identified issues with a component in certain products of our Sleep & Respiratory Care portfolio.
At that time, out of an abundance of caution and based on available information, Philips advised of potential health risks related to sound abatement foam used in specific Philips Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP), BiLevel Positive Airway Pressure (BiLevel PAP) devices, and Mechanical Ventilators.
The company also indicated that analysis of potential health risks was ongoing, and that further information would be provided when available. As a result of extensive ongoing review following this announcement, on June 14, 2021, the company issued a recall notification (U.S. only) / field safety notice (International Markets) for specific affected devices.
The recall notification (U.S. only) / field safety notice (International Markets) informs customers and users of potential impacts on patient health and clinical use related to this issue, as well as instructions on actions to be taken. Additionally, the notification provides details of our robust and comprehensive repair and replacement program, to correct this issue as efficiently and thoroughly as possible.
You will need to register your device on the site below to begin the review process with Respironics.
https://www.usa.philips.com/healthcare/e/sleep/communications/src-update
After you register your device, please call our office or go to our website to schedule an appointment with Dr. Newton or Denise Carulli APRN to discuss the recall of your PAP device.
