Wow. This is so upsetting as a contractor to see this work done previously by someone else that is potentially very dangerous! Let me explain….

Whenever you have windows and doors in a home, the proper way to install is to put in headers around said windows and doors that are structurally sound. There are a few reasons why but the main one is to maintain the integrity of the wall and in this case - for a header to be part of what holds up the second floor. When you build a house from the ground up - there is framing right? But when you put in doors and windows - you have to account for that 'blank space' so you have to construct the proper headers around them. Because without them - no window or door can hold up a wall!

If you do a half a** job and just 'stack boards' that aren't even nailed together - around a window (or multiple windows) then you compromise the wall and inevitably the whole second floor.

This is most likely what has caused the exterior cracking that made the home more susceptible to structural damage and water intrusion.

So while it's a detour for me to create the correct repair for this and costs the homeowner more money for something that was previously done wrong - it's the right thing to do now!

On a new project to replace cracked stucco with hardiboard siding. With the rainy season here it’s super important to protect your home against water intrusion!

Jumping onto a new project

I’m working on an addition today and plan to get their kitchen installed. Still lots to do but I love seeing it all come together!

Now that the big rains have given us a break here’s the latest on this project.

Porch and siding update!

Porch update! Nothing better than watching nature and feeling the ocean breeze from your own porch view!

Happy to report the inspection passed and love this progress on the porch roof!

It’s getting exciting now!

Concrete pour takes more steps than you would think!

Concrete pour coming tomorrow and a little bathroom going in later so makes sense to do the plumbing for it now.

Deck Project update

Happy to be back on this project today.

Update to new window and doors. Framed in two new window openings left and right of a sliding door to open up a few 180 degree view of the water. Also converted a door opening into a 8’ window opening for bedroom privacy and safety, and converted a 8’ window opening into sliding door for more exterior views.
