Rio Salado College's Sustainable Foods System Program partnership with Local First Arizona is a collaborative effort offering courses, workshops and business incubation that equips individuals with the skills needed to start and sustain successful food businesses. This results in community gains, thriving enterprises, job opportunities and a more vibrant local economy.

In Maryvale a low cost kitchen is open to food & restaurant start ups Local First Arizona and Rio Salado College partner to open a new kitchen in Maryvale to help West Valley food businesses and restaurants.

It's Holiday Time again and the Cafe at Rio is bringing back annual Tamales kits. The ingredient kits contain all of the food ingredients, recipes and video links needed to make 24 Red Chile Chicken tamales in the comfort of your own home.

Kit pick-up is at Rio Salado College in Tempe between 7am-5pm on Friday December 10. Deadline to order is Wednesday, December 8 at 11:55 p.m.

Celebrate the holidays by learning to make tamales with family and/or friends in your home kitchen with Cafe at Rio RioFresh At-Home Tamales kit. Kit includes a recipe card and all of the ingredients to make approximately 24 medium sized tamales. Ingredient boxes include chicken, red chile sauce, dry masa, butter, salt, baking powder, corn husks and recipe card (vegetarian kits available upon request). All registrations will receive an email with links to videos that highlight major steps in the recipe process.

Register by 11:59 p.m. Wednesday, Dec 8, so you can learn how to make delicious tamales. Ingredient boxes can be picked up Friday, Dec 10, from 7:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. at the Café at Rio in Tempe.

Thanksgiving Week Closure -- It’s almost turkey time! So, we wanted to give you a heads up on the closures for Thanksgiving week.

Rio Salado College will be closed Thursday, Nov. 25 and Friday, Nov. 26, 2021, for the Thanksgiving holiday. We wish our students, employees and the entire Rio community a very happy Thanksgiving!

College Hours will be 8 a.m.- 5 p.m. Monday, Nov. 22 - Wednesday, Nov. 24.

For many people, returning to work also means returning to lunch breaks at restaurants and fast food drive-throughs. Just because you’re eating on the go doesn’t mean you have to say no to your health.
