Both of my pregnancies were monitored by and both boys delivered by midwives. I did not see an OB. Pregnancy and childbirth is not and will never be a medical emergency...until it is. I was 39 and "past due date (garbage scare tactics fyi)" with Kash and on paper an intervention situation. My midwives just let me wait. I delivered less than an hour after I arrived. He was born quick and healthy at 41.5, my recovery seamless. If I had any more children, they would have been born at home.

The past 36 hours have shown me what an amazing office staff, patients, medical professionals, friends, and family I am surrounded by. Our youngest little guy Kash gave us a scare, and was unexpectedly admitted to Cardon Children's Hospital yesterday, Wednesday 7/10. Fortunately with the help of their amazing staff, nurses, and doctors he is back home tonight and is 💯 on the road to recovery.

Owning a single physician office is challenging, because I hate having to reschedule and cancel appointments my patients are depending on me for. These moments are rare, and I am so grateful for the office of families that entrust me to take care of them for their chiropractic needs. 😊

HUGE kudos to my staff for rescheduling our patients, their schedules, and even delivering me my "yesterday lunch" and computer to the hospital after I ran out in a huge hurry yesterday. Your effort does not go unnoticed Felicia 💕

Thank you to our patients for being understanding that our kids come first, period. One of the reasons I see a prenatal/pediatric patients is because of this, and I am so grateful for everyone's understanding.

Finally to the most amazing pediatrician in town, Dr. David Curran with East Valley Children's Center for calling the ER, getting us established, calling me last night to see how Kash was doing, and making the process seamless for this stressed out mama.

“Want to stop mouth breathing? Train your tongue.

How do you know your tongue posture isn’t the best?

One of the most common complaints I see in patients is sore jaws from clenching and grinding at night.

It translates to a terrible night’s sleep.

The issue lies with using the wrong muscles to posture the mouth. Muscles used for chewing (big one running down the cheek, and the fan like muscle up on the side of the head).

Good resting oral posture has a few components:

1) Teeth slightly apart – you don’t need to be clenching your teeth down when not chewing

2) Tongue sealed to the roof of the mouth, with the back of the tongue sealing to the soft palate – like a plunger

3) Lips together, not tense

4) Chewing and facial expression muscles turned off.

5) Breathing quietly through the nose

The challenge for better oral posture during sleep is to train your tongue to seal to the roof of the mouth.

How to you achieve this?

Well, posture is an outcome of the unconscious processes of the neuro-musculoskeletal system.

The brain receives information from entry points to the somatosensory system, such as the soles of the feet and the eyes, to then output a posture adapted to the body.

Similarly, these messages are sent via the mouth, the only difference is we don’t realize how important the mouth is for maintaining posture.

One example is how tongue strengthening positively affects your gut.

Digestion is dependent on a complete swallow response.

Tongue-strengthening exercises can help improve your swallowing, and will help night time posture.

With practice, these exercises may help you increase your tongue strength and mobility. This may improve your ability to swallow, especially when used with other types of swallowing exercises.”
