If your practitioner suspects Breast Implant Illness, the most common treatment plan involves removing silicone implants and any surrounding scar tissue. This typically results in an improvement for between 60 to 80 percent of women with BII.
Women experiencing symptoms of BII could consult with their healthcare provider about alternatives, such as autologous implants (implants composed of a woman’s own bodily tissue) following a mastectomy.
Lifestyle changes that reduce inflammation are also incredibly important.
Reducing stress, following a whole foods diet, and avoiding triggers like alcohol and excess sugar are all suggested following removal of the implant.

We know that having regular dental cleanings and check-ups is great for maintaining healthy teeth and gums. But what may not seem obvious is that good oral hygiene is also super important for good gut health!
Studies have found that bacteria from your mouth can get into your stomach and cause further issues. When there is an abundance of bad bacteria in the gut, is where we begin to encounter problems.
For example, Candida albicans thrives in high sugar environments and rapidly reproduce killing off good bacteria. So, when you eat sweets or lots of refined carbohydrates this sugar is a prime breeding ground for these bad bugs.
Another problem is P. gingivalis, which also influences the gut microbiota causing dysbiosis i.e less good bacteria and as a result poor absorption of nutrients.
Good oral hygiene prevents these microbes from multiplying and spreading through our mouth to our gut!

Chickpeas, also known as garbanzo beans, are an excellent source of plant-based protein that are full of beneficial nutrients!
These legumes contain plenty of B vitamins, iron, magnesium, folate, and fiber to keep your gut happy and help you feel fuller for longer. Because of all these nutritional benefits, chickpeas support good bone health, heart health, weight management, and satiety.
Chickpeas are affordable and super versatile too! You can blend them up into a dip (hello hummus!), use chickpea flour in place of wheat flour, roast them with seasoning for crunchy snacks or add them to stews, bowls, and salads as an easy source of protein and fiber.
If you’re purchasing dry chickpeas be sure to soak them for a few hours or ideally overnight. This helps soften the chickpeas and also makes them easier to digest.
If you’re purchasing cooked and canned chickpeas, always check for BPA-free cans and organic if possible.
You're always one decision away from a totally different life.
Do you suffer from frequent migraines? A new study found that a diet higher in fatty fish helped frequent migraine sufferers reduce their monthly number of headaches and intensity of pain.
Migraines are a neurological disease that ranks among the most common causes of chronic pain, lost work time, and lowered quality of life in North America.
More than 4 million people worldwide have chronic migraines (at least 15 migraine days per month) and over 90% of sufferers are unable to work or function normally during an attack, which can last anywhere from four hours to three days.
Women are especially prone to migraines, and an estimated 18% of all American women are affected. Current medications for migraine usually offer only partial relief and can have negative side effects including sedation, and the possibility of dependence or addiction.
The promising results from this study suggest that dietary intervention may play a key role in helping migraine sufferers with less frequency and intensity of pain.

Researchers and practitioners are signaling a rise in Breast Implant Illness - a potential complication of silicone breast implants.
Unfortunately, the symptoms are quite diverse, and most medical practitioners don’t always connect the dots to breast implants as a possible cause!
More research needs to be done on the link between autoimmune disorders and silicone breast implants, but current findings suggest silicone leaks from the implants to trigger an inflammatory response in the body.
One study found that up to 26 percent of women with breast implants develop an autoimmune disorder. Other studies find that women with silicone implants are eight times more likely to be diagnosed with Sjögren syndrome and six times more likely to be diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis.
It has also been noted that women who have previous autoimmune disorders, or a family history of them, seem to be more prone to developing BII.
Breast Implant Illness is a new and evolving condition and researchers are only scratching the surface. If you or someone you know has or is thinking about getting breast implants, it’s important to know the possible risk factors involved.

What is the best health advice you’ve ever gotten?
Ginseng is a potent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant that helps protect against oxidative stress, a natural part of cellular breakdown that can be damaging to your health.
Ginseng has also been shown to benefit cognitive function, promote feelings of calmness and improve mood. It may also help fight fatigue and enhance physical activity by lowering oxidative damage and increasing energy production in cells.
There are two main types of ginseng: Asian or Korean ginseng (Panax ginseng) and American ginseng (Panax quinquefolius). Studies have found that American ginseng is considered less stimulating and more calming than the Asian variety.
Ginseng root can be consumed in many ways. It can be eaten raw or you can lightly steam it to soften it, boiled in water to make a tea. or added to soups and stirfry’s too! Ginseng extract can be found in powder, tablets, capsules, and oil forms.
How much you should take depends on the specific health condition you want to improve but it’s always best to speak with your healthcare practitioner for advice on the appropriate dosage and to see if this herbal supplement would be right for you.
A healthy lifestyle isn't about what you lose, it's about what you gain.
Drinking coffee can be a hard habit to kick, but limiting caffeine could be the key to balancing out your hormones.
The truth is that caffeine can wreak havoc on the endocrine system, especially if there are other hormone-affecting factors involved, like pregnancy, the presence of too many toxins, lack of healthy fats in the diet, or too much stress!
So, how can you hack your morning coffee to help balance your hormones?
You can try adding in some healthy fats like a nut milk or coconut oil to your coffee. The fats help slow absorption, help balance cortisol levels that can be raised by caffeine, and prevent that "jittery" feeling.
Good replacement options for coffee, if you are trying to cut down, are green tea, matcha, or mushroom-based coffees that have some but much lower amounts of caffeine than standard coffee (plus beneficial antioxidants!)
Or, try non-caffeinated herbal tea if you simply enjoy drinking a warm beverage instead.
Do you know how long it takes food to break down in your stomach? You may be surprised to know that even if you eat them all at once, different foods vary in the time they take to break down.
Fruit takes the shortest amount of time to break down and passes through the stomach in about 15 - 20 minutes.
Next are raw and leafy green vegetables, which take anywhere from 30 - 40 minutes, and cooked root and cruciferous vegetables (carrots, broccoli, cauliflower) at 40 - 50 minutes.
Starchy vegetables (think potatoes and squash) and grains can take anywhere from 1.5 hours - 2 hours.
Animal products take the longest to break down and pass through the stomach. Dairy products take about 2 hours. Lighter animal proteins like chicken and fish take around 1 - 2 hours and heavier animal proteins such as beef and pork anywhere from 3 up to 5 hours!
Although everyone is different and digestion times are only rough estimates, it’s important to understand the different food digestion times to avoid digestive issues or discomfort such as fatigue, bloating or cramps, and is especially important for those suffering with IBS or IBD.
Why are melons the perfect nutrient-dense hydrating snack?
Melons are a good source of dietary fiber, potassium, vitamin C, and vitamin B6. There are plenty of melon varieties to choose from and here are the just a few health benefits you may want to try:
Watermelon is high in lycopene which is important for our cardiovascular and bone health.
Cantaloupe is an excellent source of dietary fiber and B vitamins - important for energy maintenance.
Honeydew melons are full of nutrients that help lower high blood pressure and improve certain skin conditions.
Want to make sure you pick a good, juicy melon at the market? Using your hand, gently tap the side of the melon several times. A deep-pitched tone indicates a melon that is perfectly ripe!
Join the 30 Days to Drink More Water Challenge!
Our bodies rely on water to hydrate our organs, for proper brain and muscle function, and much more! It is recommended to consume at least 8 cups, or 2 liters, of water per day. If you want to get more specific, divide your body weight in half, then aim to drink that many ounces of water per day.
It seems like a simple thing, but you might be surprised at how much better it feels to have plenty of clean water running through your veins!
For the next 30 days, challenge yourself to get those 8 cups a day and it’ll be a habit before you know it!
Tip: make sure you have a glass or bottle with you everywhere you go (sometimes using a straw helps you get more in) grab a friend and challenge them to join you for added accountability!
Stay healthy and stay hydrated!
