CASP has released Version 3.0 of our Applied Behavior Analysis Practice Guidelines! https://www.casproviders.org/asd-guidelines

The guidelines help ABA practitioners, government and private healthcare funders, regulatory bodies, and consumers make the best possible decisions regarding medically necessary ABA treatment to improve autistic people's lives.

ABA is a highly effective treatment for autism. But it has to be correctly implemented. These guidelines are the gold standard for our industry, reflecting consensus standards based on the best available scientific evidence.

They cover treatment implementation, outcome measures, staffing and delivery models, training and certification, and much more.

The guidelines were produced by CASP in consultation with a steering committee chaired by Dr. Jane Howard, co-founder of Therapeutic Pathways.

The committee collected input from over 60 behavior analysts, extensively reviewed the latest research since version 2.0, and carefully deliberated on every word. Because people with autism and their families—as well as the professionals the guidelines are written for—deserve that level of rigor.

Read the guidelines: https://www.casproviders.org/asd-guidelines.

In 1998 (revised in 2007), Dr. Sandra Harris and Dr. Mary Jane Weiss co-authored "Right from the Start: Behavioral Intervention for Young Children with Autism: A Guide For Parents and Professionals" which explored how intensive behavioral intervention (IBI) can be advantageous for young children diagnosed with Pervasive Developmental Disorder, particularly those aged 5 and under. It delves into applied behavioral analysis (ABA), the foundational aspect of IBI, demonstrating how ABA effectively fosters speech and language, social interaction, motor skills, and adaptive abilities using repetition, positive reinforcement, and goal refinement. Through the narrative of a real family navigating their children's diagnosis and selecting an IBI program, readers gain confidence in assessing their own options. The authors also advise families on factors to consider when choosing autism treatments, emphasizing essential components of an IBI program such as curriculum, professional roles, parental involvement, and the merits of home-based versus center-based programs.

“There are smart and effective actions we can take to deal with our problems. No one thinks that restoring the health of earth will be easy or accomplished quickly, and there will undoubtedly be many failures along the way. But as we make the effort, we should remember advice often attributed to Skinner: ‘ a failure is not always a mistake. It may simply be the best you can do under the circumstances. The real failure is to stop trying.”
On this Earth Day, enjoy the beautiful weather and, hopefully, remember how lucky we are to be alive, on earth, today. More information on how behavior analysts can help, check out this special section of the Behavior Analyst from 2012 on “The Human Response to Climate Change.”

Neurodiversity describes the idea that people experience and interact with the world around them in many different ways; there is no one “right” way of thinking, learning, and behaving, and differences are not viewed as deficits. The neurodiversity movement emerged during the 1990s, aiming to increase the acceptance and inclusion of all people while embracing neurological differences. We at Data Group Central embrace neurodiversity from our clients and employees.
