Soldier Township Fire Department
Soldier Township Fire Department started with a 1937 Chevy fire truck that had a 300 gallon water tank and a rope start pump on the back. The truck was kept warm by a wood burning stove. There was no set list of fire fighters. When a call came in anyone could and would go to the fire to help. Sometimes when a fire call was received, Fred Whiteman, the Township fir

Here are some photos from our first group training session. Last night crews from fire departments in the area went through several evolutions working together to meet a common goal - make entry in to a residence, locate victims, quickly bring them to safety, and extinguish the fire. Stay tuned - more to come tomorrow!

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of the fallen firefighter and the Wichita Fire Department.

The Wichita Fire Department and the City of Wichita are extremely saddened to announce that at approximately 3:22 PM while operating at a mutual aid fire in Haysville, one of Wichita’s bravest was injured in the line of duty, and later succumbed to their injury.

The Wichita Fire Department is working to ensure family members are all appropriately notified. We will not release the name of this firefighter until then. We respectfully ask the same of anyone that may know the firefighter.

This is a loss that deeply weighs heavily on all of us. All of the dedicated individuals who serve our fire department do so knowing the immense risk they are undertaking and do it with noble, selfless regard. It does not make their sacrifice any less immense. Nor the sacrifice of their loved ones and family any easier.

Please keep this firefighters family and crew in your prayers. We will update the community on any additional information as it becomes available.

It is going to be a HOT one this week! Please please please take measures to keep yourself and those around you safe. Check this infographic for information on the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Call 911 IMMEDIATELY if you or someone you know has signs of heat stroke.

Stay cool, friends! Drink plenty of water and hang out in the AC when possible.

This week we were visited by two wonderful gentlemen, Justus and Johann. They are currently studying abroad here in the USA, but they are first responders from Germany! Firefighter Olson gave them a station and apparatus tour and they gave us one of their station patches from back home. In the past, another one of their family members that is also a first responder visited us as well. Thank you guys for coming by! Stay safe.

Soldier Township Fire Department would like to thank the Shawnee County Sheriff's Office for inviting their heroes (us) to visit with their youth campers and show them how much cooler our fire trucks are than their patrol vehicles. 😃 We finished the visit by cooling the campers off! 🚒

All jokes aside, the Shawnee County Sherrifs Office puts on a great youth camp every summer where kids get to learn about the various things our deputies do while also building life skills, confidence, and developing positive self esteem. For more information on this camp you may call the SSO Community Services Unit at 785-251-2200.

This week our very own Firefighter Amy Martin-Scragg, Firefighter Jordan Sharpe, and Captain Rachel Frehe assisted with Camp Courage hosted by the Topeka Fire Department.
