Worker misclassification occurs when an employee is incorrectly classified as an independent contractor. Misclassified workers lose essential protections and rights they would otherwise be entitled to in a traditional employee/employer relationship including minimum wage requirements, overtime pay, workers compensation, unemployment insurance and anti-discrimination laws. Heat stress can result in heat stroke, heat exhaustion, heat cramps, or heat rashes. Heat can also increase the risk of injuries in workers as it may result in sweaty palms, fogged-up safety glasses, and dizziness.

The State Information Data Exchange System (SIDES) allows companies to electronically respond to Unemployment Insurance (UI) information requests from KDOL.
