Every equestrian feels the same thing when they look at this picture. Memories of frustration from fussing with boots. This pile was on a client counter today and it gave me a chuckle. I’ve been there. I get it. Thankfully we gave her gelding a proper fit and this pile can be a thing of the past!
Whoever thought fabric on equine footwear was a good idea!?
Another great day fitting scoots! Is it just me, or is every horse abcessing like crazy? Like huge, goopy blow outs.
Scoots are perfect for protecting and preventing the barefoot horse from abcessing. They’re also great when an abscess is unavoidable - I like to add a pad for a little extra comfy cushion!
Scoots are great for shod horses too. Does your horse keep pulling shoes? Protect the foot with a scoot boot until your farrier is able to come out and tack a shoe on. This ground is hard, protect those tootsies !
This poor guy could barely walk before we got him his Scoots. His wonderful owner told me she felt like she had her horse back. This is why we do what we do ❤️
are open at the toe (among other areas) and relieve the toe pressure often associated with laminitis. Thereby giving the toe some much needed laminitic flare relief.
The air quality is 180 in Baltimore County right now, largely in part to the Canadian fires. Keep your bestie safe today 🦄
This hard ground makes ponies so sore. I added some pads to give my guy’s soles a little relief. Everyone do a rain dance tonight ☔️❤️🙏
Very informative article on broken back and forward hoof angles
Hoof pastern angles, shoes and the back of the foot One conventional way of assessing hooves which most owners have heard of is to check whether a horse has the "correct" hoof/pastern angle. ...

Eve finished 9th in her jump round out of a strong field of 25.
Happy riding!
My clients are amazing- Thank you, Kay, for sharing the bounty of your beautiful apiary!
After a joyful and full day of teaching, returning to my home barn feels particularly peaceful.
I often tell students that horses are like snowflakes, each horse is so different. You must listen to who they are and what they are trying to tell you. Each likes to be ridden differently and it is the rider’s responsibility to adjust to the horse, not the other way around.
Today a superstar little girl wanted to jump. She’s been working hard in western tack and had the skills to do it. Today she did it 💪🏻
Two weeks ago, 5 year old and super pony/hony extraordinaire (“Jax”) thought going around the arena meant zigzagging every which way. It was frustrating.
The first thing we did was soften his bit; solid low port kimberwick to an eggbutt snaffle. If they can’t go in a snaffle, you’ve got other issues to address.
His hardworking and studious mama committed to honing in on flatwork- all good jumping starts with excellent flatting! In a couple of weeks, he’s going around W/T/C with no problems and the sky is the limit for this pair!
Looking forward to XC schooling in the very near future 😍
Cheyenne’s lovely owner rescued her from an auction a few years ago. As a rescue, she’s understandably leery of new things. We took her on a trail ride today and worked her in the front field to show her the world of riding is a happy place. She’s coming along beautifully - earning the trust of a horse is the greatest honor.
Took the young bucks out for a trail ride to expose them to all the things. Good ponies.
