My name is Dan Tanis, and I’m thrilled to join the Strength RX team as a new strength coach Welcoming the journey of fatherhood with my wife Kelsey, and with another child on the way, I’ve undergone a profound shift in my approach to fitness. Now, my aim is not just to be fit, but to move with grace and strength throughout my life, ensuring I can fully embrace every moment with my growing family.
With a Bachelor’s degree in Sports and Health Science, I bring a solid foundation to my coaching practice. My passion for longevity and performance led me to complete a rigorous 12-week internship under the guidance of Matt Wenning, where I delved into tactical strength and conditioning, as well as the principles of lifting for sustained vitality.
Specializing in kettlebell training, I find immense fulfillment in helping others align their fitness goals with their lifestyle aspirations. A mantra that deeply resonates with me, coined by the renowned strength and conditioning coach Pavel Tsatsouline, is “You can be anything you want, but you must be Strong First.” It encapsulates my belief in the foundational importance of strength in achieving any endeavor, both in fitness and in life.
Too many people quit right before they reach the peak of the mountain they are climbing. If you change your focal points, there is a greater chance you will fall in love with the journey.

I think “cutting” (diets) and “bulking” (muscle gain) phases are not for the general public becuase they don’t take a real approach to lifestyle/environment.
Plus, diets (restricting calories) is so damn miserable, people fail after two weeks. What if you just “refeed” every weekend after 4-5 hard days? Boom 💥 adherence.

Jumping right into a fad diet or a high level nutrition protocol like intermittent fasting before mastering these three things is like trying to play professional basketball straight out of high school.
001% of humans can do that, so hire a coach to help you master the basics before you jump into something unsustainable again.
“The why”
1. Chewing food longer has shown to help the body and brain realize that you are eating therefore digestion and satiety are put top of mind (pun intended)
2. Think of laying a foundation of cement (protein and veggies are very hard to digest) to a house prior to eating the macro nutrient that is most responsible for an increase in blood sugar. This MAY mitigate the “height” of blood sugar.
3. Some steady movement has shown to have a significant impact on normalizing blood sugar post meal. The quicker we can come back to balance, the less opportunity for fat storage :)
One of the number one mistakes personal trainers and coaches make is not providing the proper stimulus to the client (people who work on their own, or in group settings make this mistake MORE).
If we have 12 reps prescribed and at 10 reps the client’s technique and effort is still high, we are adjusting to a minimum of 15 reps.
Some days 50 # feels light and you might be able to do 25 reps to meet our rule of building in load until you only have 1-2 reps left in reserve. Other days 50 # feels heavy and you may only get to 12 before meeting the stimulus of leaving 1-2 reps in the tank. Either way, we met our goal that day and will continue to make progress.
Next time you realize that you grabbed too light of a weight for your rep scheme, you have permission to “color outside the lines”

Are you using the weight scale as your only tool to measure progress? If you are putting in the work and still not seeing the results, this video is for you.
The body is incredibly smart and will make adaptations to the stress that is put upon it. If you are restricting calories, your body is going to make adjustments to achieve balance.
Less calories might (highly likely) equate to low muscle tissue, which burns a helluva lot less calories at rest than someone with sufficient muscle tissue.
