Happy Restaurant Week! Thank you so much to our friends at amical for featuring our lamb shank on their menu this week! These shanks are brined with brown sugar, glazed with an elegant tamarind barbecue sauce and served over a bed of eggplant chow chow. Our entire meal was fantastic. We appreciate the support of our local restaurant partners.
It has been a very busy two weeks here at Anavery. Two full farrows of piglets, a dozen new lambs (with another 20 or so on the way) and two calves were born since the 1st week of February! It’s been rewarding to see these littles thriving in our cozy barn.
It’s been quite a week and it’s only Tuesday. Farmer Autumn caught this great shot today during a brief moment of sunshine over the pasture. Cats are hunkered in deep burrows in straw and we navigated deep snowdrifts with snowshoes and the tractor to keep everyone fed.
Winter has arrived in full force! We spent Friday prepping for the heavy snow and wind. 6000+ lbs of feed for our pigs and layers, plenty of hay bales and a full morning of fresh straw spread all around. Bring it on Mother Nature. We got this.
We’re so thankful for our weekly visits from The Children's House. These young chefs and farmers arrive with a week’s worth of delicious fruit and vegetables scraps from their learning kitchen, which offers variety and nourishment to our Red Waddle pigs! We learn about cows, sheep, goats, ducks, chickens and barn cats before we head out to our pig pasture. Thank you so much.

It’s been a brutally cloudy, wet, muddy and snow-less winter so far. We’re keeping the barn cozy for everyone, which isn’t easy with temps hovering above freezing. Here’s to hoping for frozen ground, some snow on the horizon and a great holiday week to catch our breath around the farm.
Snowchain season is here. Our cows and sheep are enjoying locally-sourced alfalfa, sorghum and teff, which supply ample calories for the coldest conditions. Thanks to our trusty Deere for starting perfectly in even the worst conditions. 📸: Dave Waeltz
We’re thankful for sunsets like this and for the Meat Club Members and turkey customers we’ve seen over the last few days. John Deere green looks real nice against our barn red.
Say hi to these stunner Murray Grey cows. These gentle beauties have a really unique color. The Murray Grey breed was developed from an initial chance mating of a black Aberdeen Angus bull and a roan Shorthorn cow in 1905 in the Murray River Valley in New South Wales, Australia 🇦🇺!They’ve been great on our farm mingling with our Herefords. 📸:
Reserve your Thanksgiving Turkey! Our pasture-raised Broad-breasted Bronze turkeys are open for orders for Thanksgiving! We estimate our birds will weigh 20-30 pounds each and you can choose either a whole or half turkey.
Visit our online store and gobble one before they sell out!
