As we close out November and enter the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, TES MI would like to recognize the caregivers we collaborate with as November is "National Caregivers Month" and discuss how to combat compassion fatigue.
Compassion fatigue is a state experienced by those helping people or animals in distress; it is an extreme state of tension and preoccupation with the suffering of those being helped to the degree that it can create a secondary stress for the helper (Dr. Charles Figley). The first step is to recognize the signs of compassion fatigue. Are you experiencing low motivation or decreased ability to concentrate? Do you feel powerless or have heightened anxiety? Maybe you're feeling withdrawn or isolated? Being a caregiver is a huge responsibility and as rewarding as it can be, it can also be challenging and taxing. Once you recognize the signs of compassion fatigue, you can start to make a change. Incorporate self-care and breaks into your routine. Create a community of those that can assist and support you. Keep in mind the five C's of resiliency to keep you from burning yourself out - center yourself, be confident in your abilities and yourself, create a community to support you and to lean on, commit to a routine with self-care included, and maintain compassion for not only those you care for, but for yourself as well! Making time for yourself is not only important, but necessary and should be experienced guilt free.
So, this holiday season, be sure to take time for you and reflect on all of the wonderful moments you have experienced this year. Thank you, caregivers, for all that you do! We see you and support you❤️
Happy Thanksgiving from our TES family to yours!! Swipe right to see why TES is thankful☺️
As a reminder, TES will be closed today and tomorrow. We will see you back on Monday!

Tapioca pearls are a taste safe alternative that still offer your child the fun of water beads without the possibility of tasting something unsafe! As always you want to be sure to monitor play in case of choking hazards. Happy play!
