Fun fact, Friday, one of these heating elements out of an electric water heater is three years old, and one is not. And, the water heater is only used six months out of the year so it’s only got about 18 months of life on this particular heating element.

Yesterday, the park where I live, had a water leak in one of the main lines so they had to shut down the water for the day. This morning when I went outside, I could hear running water coming out of the fifth wheel next to me. The occupant of this fifth wheel leaves her hose connected to their water source constantly, never using her holding tank. Unfortunately, she was not using device like shown below, which regulates the pressure of the water going into the RV. The underbelly of her RV was a balloon full of water and the floor in her compartments is sopping wet.

We can only assume that when they turned the water back on, they did not do so gradually, and there was a sudden rush of pressure that unfortunately was too much for a connection somewhere inside her RV.

The first lesson here is never to leave your RV connected to somebody else’s water source. Use your hose to fill the tank, use your tank and water pump, then refill your tank when necessary. The second lesson, is to always always always have some sort of a pressure regulator on your hose. This $10 part could save you hundreds and hundreds of dollars in repair bills.

Walking through the RV park where I live today and I noticed a couple frantically scurrying around there Class C. She was crawling out from underneath it, and he was on the phone with somebody. I stopped to ask them if they needed help. The proceeded to tell me that, when they turn on the water pump, water just sprays out of the bottom of the unit. Long story short they had just bought it brand new, a few days ago in California and they’re on their way to Tennessee. Tucson was their first stop with their brand new Thor Class C. He explained to me that he had drained his gray tank, then drained his black tank, and then, when they turned, the water pump on water was spraying out all over. I went inside pulled a couple drawers out just to be sure that there was no leak inside the unit and there wasn’t. Then I proceeded to explain to him how he should have drained his tanks properly, and politely asked him if he got it, inspected before he bought it . He said well, of course the dealer inspected it for me…

Todays edition of "living the RV lifestyle" brings me to the famous Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake Iowa. The original surf was built by my great uncle, Carl Fox in 1936. He sold it in 1946. The original ballroom burned down in 1947. The owners then contracted Carl to build the new ballroom across the street from the original where stands today as a historical landmark. the current ballroom was the last place that Buddy Holly,Richie Valens, and the Big Bopper performed before they died in a plane crash flying to Fargo North Dakota.
