Bells & Whistles
Everything your canine needs from a balanced and ethical trainer
This one was special, it was tough to see him go, but he’s off to do important things and live his best life! As always, I’m thankful for our friend and colleague Ella, our veterinary staff who listened to my every concern and did everything to make this boy feel 100%, and every other person who assisted in making this happen. It takes a village!
Update on our fosters!
Péist has been handling the change well, he still likes to give me a hard time but giving him firm and fair corrections, boundaries and structure is helping shape him into a different dog. We’re building motivation and using that in our commands so that training is FUN and not an argument. His engagement is getting better every day and while he’s not available for adoption yet I think he will be a super fun dog!
Our little no name Mal is coming out of his shell and learning how to be a dog. He was a completely blank slate and it’s been fun to see how he learns. Right now we’re just building motivation with him, teaching house manners, structure and leash pressure. He’s doing excellent in his kennel, figuring out proper play with the other dogs, and responding well to the slip lead. He is an excellent starter Malinois (and loves sleeping on the bed)
The rest of our pack is working on proofing this week using the 3 Ds. In case nobody knew, we’re in the beginning stages of a 6 month long mentorship, so every week we highlight a different training focus and deep dive into it 😎
Have a good weekend and don’t forget to train your dog!
✨Foster spotlight✨
3 year old Péist came from a high kill and full shelter in California. While there for a training seminar I received a call from a friend and all she said was “you need to meet this dog”. It wasn’t because he was perfect and well trained, it was because with his behavioral problems he had no chance of being adopted. He has learned to use his size to be a bully, he will not take any correction, and absolutely won’t share. He’s my favorite mix of spicy and a blank slate. I see big things for this guy but we will be going slow to ensure safe and positive experiences, because of this he is not yet adoptable but keep an eye out in the coming months!
Our foster boy Ruckus showing off his patriotic style! This special boy has had a rough life, but thankfully MAD Rescue ~~ Malinois and Dutch Shepherd Rescue, Inc. was able to pull him from the shelter and I’ve been lucky enough to be his temporary foster Mom. AND he is on his way to his forever home soon! It’s always bitter sweet but so rewarding seeing them go from completely shut down to being happy and letting their unique personality shine.
My favorite boarders back and practicing their “place” time!
Hi everyone, I just wanted to make a public status and say if you’re waiting on videos, messages or my calendar to schedule appointments please be patient with me as I get back to you.
I’ve been having a string of bad luck lately and are now currently trying to figure out an illness that has been keeping me out of commission on and off.
I will get back to everyone as soon as I can! I will be issuing free training credits to current clients that have been having to wait on me as well.
✨If you were looking for something to work on today, I recommend barrier impulsivity!
Note: Ensure you are between your dog and the barrier, even if you step outside or through the doorway, they should wait for your release cue. (And don’t forget to reward!)

✨Success story!✨
This little guy, now affectionately known as “Wrangler”, was not even 13 weeks old when he’d born at, adopted and then returned to the shelter.
He was loud and rambunctious and exhibited normal puppy behavior.
He was only misunderstood, not misbehaving, so I brought him home and trained some basic puppy skills while still fully encouraging him to be the confident and playful adolescent that he is.
On his first real social outing he met his new Mom, they immediately became attached and I knew he’d found his home.
She sent these photos to show how well he’s settled and I could not be more proud of little Wrangler!
Hello everyone! I am back from a slight hiatus 🙂
The time away was spent working on education, attending seminars and learning from those who specialize in different fields.
You may also notice we have a new logo and now have a website! (Still a work in process)
In addition to furthering my education, I’ve spent a great deal working within the foster and rescue system and getting hands on experience with a wonderfully wide variety of dogs!
My goal is that by taking this approach I will see the big picture of how dogs interact, learn, achieve fulfillment and enjoyment and be able to put that toward my training and handling style.
My goal is to post more about how I initially start a rescue/foster, some easy training tips and how I develop my own dogs!
Happy to have you here!
It’s a hard, cruel world!
☹️
Arlo the giant doodle has been a long time boarder of mine with his sister Osa. After his most recent stay, his parents left him for our Board and Train program. They’ve put a wonderful foundation on him but he sometimes doesn’t realize how large his 100 pound self is! For Arlo we’re focusing on confidence and socializing, impulse control, relaxation and house/leash manners. Him being in place while people ride bikes and play at the park across the street is a huge feat and I’m proud of the effort he’s putting in!
We have a busy couple weeks to end 2022! From training in a different state last weekend to dogs coming in for holiday boarding it’s nothing but non stop fun around here!
