Exciting news! Tuna, our forever mascot and favorite boy, is officially free from sick lung illness and of heartworm! 🥳👏🏼🥳👏🏼

Here's a little of his back story. Tuna faced a couple tough years on the streets before we were fonally able to bring him in with us as our cherished foster in Puerto Rico. He was in our home for a wonderful full year. 💕 Despite his regular health checks vet visits, we (he) wasnt given “proper” check-up or preventative care because we were told, “he’s just a sato dog.” Unfortunately, this “oversight” is all too common for street animals on the island. 😖😭💔 😔
BUT Fortunately, as fate would have it an amazing person, Sarah in New York saw Tuna and decided she wanted to adopt him. ❤️🥳
After being flown to New York from Puerto Rico, Sarah has reported that Tuna now has a TRUE clean bill of health, thanks to the exceptional veterinary care and heartworm treatments he received over several months. We at Furiend Flight, along with PRoudRescuersofPuertoRico, were proud to support his treatments and can officially declare him HEARTWORM FREEEEEEE!!!!! ❤️❤️‍🩹❤️💉

We are commited to every animal that we have rescued and we believe that our love and connection with them goes far beyond even when they are adopted out. 🥹🫶🏼

One stopped and was adopted in Tenessee the other three made it to Arizona to our favorite CAT only NO KiLL Animal Shelter in Arizona! “A Community For Everyone” is the slogan for the Roosevelt Roads New Community Development initiative. A community for everyone should include dogs and cats people with pets. Yet here, on the former and still semi-active United States Military training base, the Mayor of Ceiba, locals, and tourists on the ferry boats mostly ignore over 150-300 stray dogs at any given time on this one street alone. These animals did not ask for this! Theres no shelter or sanctuary for them in Ceiba!! The time is now 🇵🇷‼️ Protect them and stop the unnecessary suffering from unplanned litters! But back To the dogs for now. As we reflect on our dog rescue efforts throughout August, we are overwhelmed with gratitude for the incredible work accomplished and the lives forever changed. While the highlights below merely scratches the surface, the images showcase the unwavering dedication of our team and supporters in the face of challenges, including a tropical storm hitting the island, making Puerto Rico with out power and water for days

Rescues and New Beginnings:
- **Five Rescue Dogs Were Flown to The East Coast:
We witnessed the joy of five deserving dogs finding love in the States. Each adoption represents a new beginning and a brighter future for these furry friends. 🐾❤️🐕
W***y’s Eye Surgery:Our special boy, W***y, finally underwent successful eye surgery at ALL Friends Veterinary Hospital. This surgery bringing him one step closer to a happier life. His journey is a testament to the resilience of these animals and the love they inspire. 👀 Honestly we can't wait to show you how great he looks!

**Community Support:**
**Dog Food Distribution:**

Thanks to our incredible donors, we were able to deliver much-needed dog food to our feeding routes and distribute supplies to our partner rescuers. Your generosity has made a significant impact on the well-being of many dogs in need.

**Urgent Rescue Efforts:**
**Puppy Sisters Found:** Two sweet adorable puppy sisters were discovered dumped at the Hyatt in dire condition. This was a moment of fate because our dedicated colleage Charlene at Upshot Dog Rescue were miraculously on hand to help with their veterinary needs, and we were fortunate to be able to provide a small amount of foster care for them
- **Coco’s Fight Against Leptospirosis:** Just as the sisters were settling in, we faced a heartbreaking moment when one was diagnosed with leptospirosis. Thankfully, with prompt medical attention, she survived, showcasing the resilience of these little fighters.

**Collaborative Initiatives:**
**Building Stronger Relationships:** Throughout the month, we focused on forging new partnerships and working on behind-the-scenes projects with like-minded individuals. Together, we are amplifying our efforts and making a more significant impact on the community.
- **Disaster Response:** Amidst the tropical storm, we mobilized to distribute large kennels, tnr traps, and much needed cages, helping to get animals out of harm's way and into a church for temporary shelter . This response highlighted the importance of community resilience and collaboration during challenging times.

**Looking Ahead:**
We also made strides in our surveillance and documentary film work, which will be crucial for future initiatives. And let’s not forget our ongoing TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) efforts, which play a vital role in managing the stray population.

As we celebrate these accomplishments, we want to emphasize that none of this would be possible without the generous contributions from our followers and supporters like you. Your kindness fuels our mission and enables us to continue our work.

URGENT Help Us help these Cats of Ceiba, Los Machos Beach after the storm! 🌊☔️🌀⛈️

During the tropical storm this week, our furiends PR Rescue Angels were able to trap 15 cats in distress, and thats when it was decided to take action! Instead of just returning them, it was immediately realized how sweet they all are and thought, why not get them fixed and find them loving homes?! ❤️🐱🐈‍⬛🙏🏼🥰

5 were fixed Thursday. Tomorrow, 4 more head to San Juan for their surgeries, another 5 will follow this Friday. The rest will be scheduled for next month!

We are committed to helping PR Rescue Angels and the community cats in Ceiba, especially around Los Machos Beach where we have promised to always help the main caregiver Maria. We need your support! Please help us spread the word in partnership with . Together, we can make a difference!

The same day we sent our last two foster rescue dogs on their freedom flight two adorable sister dogs were dumped and found their way to us before we leave the island. It felt like fate had a hand in bringing them into our lives for our final week in town. 🥹These lovely girls are now safe and sound, ready to be vetted through 🙏🏻🥰They are both small/medium-sized, incredibly sweet, and have been the best girls during their time with us. They sleep peacefully in their kennel and have shown nothing but love and affection.We believe these sisters are so charming and adoptable that they will find their forever homes in no time! However, they will need a foster to help them transition over the next month or so. If you or someone you know can open your heart and home to these sweet girls, please reach out.Together, we can help these sisters start their new journey! 🐶💖

ON OCTOBER 1, 2024, the U.S. National Park Service will start acting to round up community cats in Puerto Rico. Cats will be killed if the NPS isn't stopped.

Alley Cat Allies filed a historic lawsuit against the NPS in March and we won't back down with these cats' lives on the line. But we need you with us.

🌟 Exciting News! 🌟 We are absolutely thrilled to share that Lucy and W***y are BOTH getting their second chances this weekend! 🥳 Both are set for their freedom flights, and we couldn’t be happier for them! 🥹 its been a long road but here it is! Time for them to fly ✈️🐾❤️🇵🇷🗽🐾 Lucy is on her way to a loving forever home in Pennsylvania with an incredible former adopter of Rescuers of Puerto Rico Devon! Devon recently lost her beloved Sato Leidy and in her honor shes bringing Lucy in as a foster to adopt. 🥹🫶🏼🙏🏻Oh we can’t wait to see Lucy thrive in her new environment filled with love and care. Shes such a good lil lady shes going to fit right in!!! ☺️Meanwhile, Mr W***y wiggle-bug will be making his way to New York for his much-needed double eye surgery.🙌🏼 After his surgery, he will move in with his foster mama E, who is truly one of the best around!! ❤️🐾 We know he will be nurtured and cared for until he finds his perfect forever family!! This week has been alot, especially at our cat colony (the dumping grounds) at Los Machos Beach. A few days ago we discovered a young cat who had just been dumped by an owner, and to our horror, she had just given birth to five kittens that morning. We try to leave mom and kittens alone for the most part however, tragically, that same day, feral dogs attacked and killed two of the kittens. So it was clear that we had to act fast to save the remaining babies kittens in the litter‼️

We quickly decided to rescued the mother and her three barely surviving newborns - since she would most likely be defenseless due to her nursing her kittens - if and when the dogs come back. Once we got them in the van and then home, we noticed the mama was desperately trying to keep her babies alive. But… unfortunately, and after a long stressful night by the next morning, shelost two more of the kittens, leaving us heartbroken for her. 💔😔

Now, three days later, here we are. 😒 Things are starting to look better. It seems the young mama cat and her last kitten are starting to decompress and feel more secure and at ease in their new environment. She is still on high alert but we can tell shes a tad less on edge.🫶🏼🙏🏻Mama and baby will remain with us for now but sadly we are leaving the island soon for a bit. Prior to our departure we will get her and her kittens to the vet for a check-up. We plan to get the mother dewormed, vet checked and her shots. Then once her baby is eating on its own we’ll arrange for mama to be spayed. Our hope is to find them both loving homes and NOT TNR them back to the colony. They both deserve a home. Shes a sweet young kitten herself and deserves better than to be dumped again like trash. In the meantime we are looking for a loving and responsible foster for the mini mama and her precious survivor. ❤️🙏🏻🐈‍⬛ If anyone is interested in helping with that, or sponsoring their care, you can do so through the links in our bio or simply get in touch through our messages.🫶🏼 Lets find her and baby a warm welcoming and loving home.
