Maurice Duruflé's Requiem, Op. 9 is one of the most widely beloved choral masterpieces of the 20th Century. Composed in 1947 and based on Gregorian plainchant, its nine movements speak to eternal themes in a way that resonates in the present day.
Duruflé's intent was for the Requiem to emphasize peace and tranquility through lush harmonies and a contemplative mood, rather than focusing on themes of judgement and condemnation.
The historic collaboration of True Concord and Phoenix Chorale will produce an unforgettable performance of the Requiem you won't want to miss, along with Jeremy Filsell on Catalina United Methodist Church's Quimby organ, and soloists Holly Sheppard, mezzo-soprano (Phoenix Chorale) and Edward Vogel, baritone (True Concord).
ICYMI: True Concord's Founding Music Director, Eric Holtan, sat down with Phoenix Chorale's Artistic Director, Christopher Gabbitas, calling in from his home in London, to discuss the upcoming historic collaboration between Arizona's two GRAMMY-honored professional choral ensembles.
It's Grammy season, and True Concord congratulates all of our fellow organizations and many of our musicians whose excellent albums are up for consideration!
True Concord's album, A Dream So Bright: Choral Music of Jake Runestad, has been placed for consideration in five categories, including Best Choral Performance. Please see the link below for all the information.
