I wish I could write a love letter to all my patients, BFP clients and followers who have been through IVF or are thinking about trying IVF.
We, as humans, are always doing our best with the information we have at any given moment.
IVF is a big step. It can offer hope. It’s not a guarantee, but for some future parents it truly is the best option.
There’s a lot of debate over IVF in our country right now. A lot of what feels like judgement over the choice to pursue IVF. A lot of worry over whether we’ll continue to be able to access this option.
I wish you didn’t have to worry about other peoples opinions, judgements and access on top of your own worries about if you’ll be able to start or grow your family.
I wish that everyone who is considering IVF also had information about and access to nutrient dense diets, good quality supplements, an environment free of toxins, good therapy and acupuncture.
I wish that everyone who was considering IVF could ensure that they had optimal thyroid health, and could investigate nutrient deficiencies, inflammation and the microbiome.
I do believe there’s more we can be doing to improve health and well being before and during IVF that can improve outcomes. And I believe sometimes we can prevent needing to pursue IVF when we look at and take care of the whole person/whole couple.
And it’s not my place to make the decision of what’s best for you.
IVF is not good or bad. It’s a tool and you get to decide what tools are best for you and your fertility journey.
If you’ve chosen IVF, I pray it brings you your miracle!
And if IVF hasn’t worked for you, there may still be room for exploration of what can support you & your dreams.

Well I don’t have a magic button, but I do have 11 years of experience guiding people through the frustration, fear and uncertainty that comes along with infertility.
And when it comes to releasing all of the above and manifesting what you DO want there are a few really important pieces to take into consideration:
1. It’s more important to be honest than it is to “stay positive” all the time

You’re not likely coming to instagram jonsing for your daily dose of trauma.
Maybe you’re coming for entertainment, a laugh, a hot tip, an escape.
I wish I could offer you a light hearted anecdote.
But how anyone can continue with normally scheduled content is beyond me.
Tonight I silently wept as I put my 4 year old to bed. He likes to fall asleep on me and then I have to ninja roll my way out.
I usually linger an extra 20 minutes but tonight I could feel the deep sobs coming.
A rage and an ache for all the families torn apart and devastated by genocide.
And I wonder how anyone can just keep going about daily life as if nothing is happening.
You may be in your own phase of life where you need to fiercely protect your heart - I respect and honor that and often advise my fertility patients to stop watching the news and delete social media…
But I’m in a phase of life where I finally have more resources (mentally and emotionally) to handle not living under a rock.
My role here on this earth goes beyond “helping people get and stay pregnant”
My entire mission is based on helping people create safety in their mind and body, to clear the way for conception…so that the new souls being welcomed can come do their jobs in healing this planet.
It’s a wild mission and sometimes I wonder if there wasn’t something a lot fu***ng easier my soul could have chosen to embark on.
And an extension of this mission means being a voice for those who are silenced…whether it be the woman who’s told 7 doctors about her painful periods only to be brushed off, or the entire race who’s begging not to be erased.
How do we create safety on this planet if we cannot make a stand for equity, for peace?
I have not a clue how to do this gracefully. It feels awkward as hell. I’m not a writer, historian, or activist.
But my heart tells me there is more to be done, a different way of doing things, and that I have the power to create change.
And so do you.

To say I was triggered this week was an understatement 😂
I’m still workin’ through it…what is true for me is that when I’m triggered, it’s an opportunity to explore what is asking to be healed.
Sometimes my biggest “trigger moments” are when people say stupid sh*t that impacts my patients and I go into full mama bear mode…I need to explore that more especially given my whole brand is nervous system regulation 🙃
Can I add knowing my kids will be safe at schools, shopping malls & grocery stores to this list?
What would you add??
Every day I’m grateful for the single mom who raised me and my children are the greatest gifts I could’ve ever asked for.
And I don’t mean to sound ungrateful because I really do love the recognition on Mother’s Day…and this year I legit laid in a bed with a cold for 2 days and barely lifted a finger and it was actually lovely.
But one day of acknowledgment per year doesn’t even come close to making up for the over $83,000 I’ve spent on all of the above in the last 8 years (that’s a VERY conservative estimate).
I recognize that I’m very privileged to have children at all, be able to afford having children, and that I’ve had so much help from family and only needed to cover part time day care.
I hope that my sons understand the privilege we have.
I hope we can raise them to see the importance of supporting mothers.
Feels like I’m shouting into the void some days but I hope our country can get its priorities straight!
P.S. Mother’s Day spending was expected to be $33.3 BILLION this year in the U.S. The 2021 proposal for U.S. maternity leave was about $220 billion over 10 years. I think we can figure this out.

13 years ago, my biggest fear was that I wouldn’t be able to have kids.
When I came off the pill, my periods were all over the place, and when they did come, they’d take me out of commission for a day or two. Every few months I’d experience a ruptured ovarian cyst. And the cherry on top? Painful, ugly, cystic acne.
For a 3rd year med student, I felt like I had my stress in pretty good check. I was eating clean. I prioritize sleep…or at least wasn’t pulling all-nighters like I used to. I took the designer supplements for balancing hormones. I worked out 5 days a week. I’d done multiple detoxes… Why did my body feel like such a mess?
My OB/GYN said all my labs were normal and CHUCKLED when I told her my fear that I wouldn’t be able to have children, like “NBD, you’ll be fine! Come back a year after you start trying and we’ll go from there. Otherwise just take birth control if it bothers you that much.”
I’d never shared that fear with anyone before and I felt gutted that it hadn’t been taken seriously.
My anxiety spiraled. I was losing sleep over why my body wasn’t doing what it was supposed to- and all the “what ifs” of the future.
Finally I took things into my own hands, ran my own labs, customized my protocol & began using practices that helped my cycle and skin. It took two years & even though I wasn’t experiencing perfectly regular cycles, my body felt safe to conceive.
In 2015, after ovulating on cycle day 40 🤷♀️, I found out I was expecting this little miracle.
For the last decade, I’ve been supporting women and couples on their fertility journey…while each treatment requires bio-individuality, the foundation of every treatment is:

As I was reviewing interviews with our past Brilliant Fertility Program members last night, there was a common thread that really gets my knickers in a twist…
None of these clients’ providers gave them resources or advice outside of telling them to:
- wait a year and come back
- try IUI, then IVF
- look into donor eggs
We need to acknowledge that all providers have their limitations.
For instance, I have thousands of hours of training in functional medicine, nutrition, and Traditional Chinese Medicine as they relate to fertility…
And I still discuss the options of IUI and IVF when it’s in patients’ best interest even though I do not perform IVF.
-But -
NOT letting patients know that there is solid evidence in support of nutrition, lifestyle change, supplementation, acupuncture and mind-body interventions would be neglect.
No one can be trained in everything. I wouldn’t expect or endorse that.
What I DO endorse is being able to say:
“hey __xyz__ isn’t my specialty, but it could make a difference to look into this as an option to support you…here are some referrals and educational materials”
It doesn’t have to be either or. It can be BOTH/AND.
I’m so grateful to the providers who go above and beyond.

The-two-week-wait-stress-cycle.
The two week wait arrives and every sensation in your body is driving you to bust out your phone and google things like…
“When does breast tenderness start in pregnancy?”
“What does implantation feel like?”
“Is it normal to spot during early pregnancy?”
“How early can I take a pregnancy test?”
“PMS vs. early pregnancy symptoms”
Before you know it, it’s 2 hrs past your bedtime.
The next day you’re tired, have a headache and the hyper awareness of your body continues.
While it’s totally understandable that you’re trying to tune into what’s going on in your body, what’s actually happening is you’re adding fuel to the fire🔥…(the stress & anxiety fire)
The not getting enough sleep, feeling sluggish and stressed, can lead to your body not feeling safe on a subconscious level.

What do we do about this?

The fastest way to help the body feel safe to receive and conceive is through nervous system regulation and learning to connect to your intuition.
From there, the nutrition, the supplements, the proper testing all starts to fall into place.

Ever wondered what contributes to the weight gain, excess testosterone, anovulation & inflammation for people with PCOS?
For up to 80% of those with PCOS, insulin resistance is a major factor.
While there are several contributors to insulin resistance, what and HOW we eat can go a long way towards improving insulin sensitivity.
My general “rules” for eating for PCOS:
1. Stop using set in stone rules and restriction as the cornerstone of a PCOS “diet”
2. Don’t skip meals or restrict calories
3. Try using this plate as a template- there are endless food pairings to enjoy when using this!
4. Pair carbohydrates with protein, fiber and fat to slow the absorption of sugar into the bloodstream
5. Slow down!! Meaning- dedicate time to eating, take a few deep breaths, chew food completely and enjoy your meals
6. Pay attention to how to feel before and after eating- check in on energy, mood, digestion, headaches
7. Get help if you feel stuck!
What questions do you have on eating for PCOS and insulin resistance?
Today is and I want everyone with PCOS to know I have your back.
PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) is a complex situation that affects more than just the ovaries.
Most of my PCOS patients are coming for fertility purposes, but people with PCOS are also at higher risk for diabetes and cardiovascular disease.
If you were diagnosed with PCOS, whether or not you’re trying to conceive, we have to talk about:
✔︎ Insulin Resistance
✔︎ Inflammation & Oxidative Stress
✔︎ Stress & Adrenal Health
✔︎ Environmental Toxins- (dozens of toxins act as endocrine disruptors)
✔︎ Thyroid Health
***(Genetics is something to discuss as well, as there is usually a family history)
Believe it or not there ARE solutions…
And “eat less, exercise more!” is not it.
PCOS treatment needs to address all the factors listed above, as well as emotional, mental and spiritual well being.
Some tips to get started:
1. Protein at every meal 25-30 grams
2. Prioritize sleep- 8 hrs every night- get help if you struggle with sleep
3. Avoid toxins that disrupt hormones- start by swapping plastic for glass and stainless steel & avoiding products with “fragrance”
4. Find a provider who is well versed in the complexity of PCOS
