Incredible Pizza is the place to be tomorrow night from 4pm to 8pm! The largest Silent Dinner in Oklahoma is taking place, all in honor of the Deaf Community. Buffet prices are only $9.99 or pay $22 for the buffet and a $22 game card. It does not matter if you are fluent in signing or just learning! This is a great opportunity to interact with Tulsa's Deaf Community!
A portion of the proceeds will benefit The Center for Individuals with Physical Challenges.
Today several of the Tulsa Area United Way Loaned Executives and Donors took a tour of The Center for Individuals with Physical Challenges. While visiting The Center, they were able to jump into a beach volleyball game with the members. TAUW is a huge supporter of The Center, without them many programs the members love would not be possible. We are a proud Partner Agency with TAUW. What a fun way to end a tour!
The final week of Deaf Awareness Month is filled with exciting activities! Tuesday, the 24th is the largest Silent Dinner in Oklahoma at Incredible Pizza! Hundreds of Tulsans come together with the Deaf Community to learn, play and have a great time! There will be pizza, Lazer tag, go carts, arcade games and much more.
Pricing and other info is in the flyer below. A portion of all sales will go to benefit The Center for Individuals with Physical Challenges. No matter your sign language level, come and be a part of this awesome experience.
Members of The Center for Individuals with Physical Challenges had the opportunity to participate in the Tulsa Pickleball Classics. In the Up/Down event, adaptive players pair up with other players to play Doubles in a tournament-style match. It was an incredible evening with smiles to go around! This past weekend, The Center for Individuals with Physical Challenges organized the All Comers Wheelchair Tennis Camp at LaFortune Park Tennis Center. Both adults and youth enjoyed a fantastic time enhancing their skills and learning new techniques. Nick Taylor, who was a four time Paralympian, contributed his expertise to coach these emerging tennis players, along with Carlos Turic from Texas and Eddie Stoica. The Center extends its heartfelt gratitude to the United States Tennis Association - USTA (Official) for their generous grant that made this camp a reality, as well as to LaFortune Park Tennis Center for providing access to their courts.
The Center for Individuals with Physical Challenges had an incredibly busy day today! In celebration of Tulsa Area United Way’s Day of Caring, numerous volunteers from Hillcrest Medical Center arrived at 8:00am to assist with the Boccia Classic Tournament. The Center Twisters did excellent with Tempest Helton securing 1st place, Melissa Gaskins in 2nd, and Steven R Marrs in 3rd place. Additionally, The Center hosted its annual Board Cookout where all board members gathered to cook, serve and socialize with members on this beautiful day. What a splendid day at The Center!

There is no better way to talk about Deaf Awareness Month than to learn Sign Language! Channel 6 came to The Center for Individuals with Physical Challenges to learn more about the Sign Language classes offered here. The Director of Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services Susan Nelson did an excellent job with Diana Emerson translating for her. Below is more information about taking a Sign Language class as well as information about the largest Silent Dinner in Oklahoma at Incredible Pizza happening September 24 from 4:00-8:00pm. Whether you can sign, are learning, or are just curious come to Incredible Pizza to learn more about the Deaf Community and have some fun while you are at it.

TCC's Touch the Art exhibit opened this last Friday and will be going through the month. 4 members from The Center for Individuals with Physical Challenges had their art pieces selected for this incredible art experience. John Olivias, Dreu Crane, Geralyn Walters, and Luis Macias created pieces worth touching! The Center had a booth set up with the Visual Arts Instructor Sarah Van Zandt where she helped others create their own touchable work of art. Sarah had many members of The Center create a group project to incorporate taste. It truly is a must go see!
Come see The Center for Individuals with Physical Challenges at the Drillers baseball game tonight! Final game of the season! The Center is grateful to be the community spotlight tonight for the Drillers final game. Bluey is here and there is supposed to be an excellent firework show tonight. Seeing members is always the best!!
Deaf Awareness Month is kicking off with a bang! The Tulsa Drillers will be having their final game Sunday evening the 7th, at 6:00pm. They will have Bluey making an appearance as well as a firework show! The Center for Individuals with Physical Challenges has been invited as their Community Spotlight. So be sure to stop at The Center's booth and say hello!
That same afternoon there will be a book signing at The Gathering Place at Williams Lodge with Abigail Heringer. Abigail was The Bachelor's first deaf contestant, and wrote a book called "The Deaf Girl."

The Art program here at The Center for Individuals with Physical Challenges is truly spectacular! Members can work with clay, watercolor, stained glass, and so much more. Some of the Members of The Center will have their artwork displayed at the "Please Touch the Art' exhibit that starts on September 6, with a free opening reception that starts at 5pm. This exhibit will be at the McKeon Center for Creativity. And yes... you can really touch the art! See you there!

Ever thought about picking up American Sign Language? ASL is a captivating language for those interested in learning or those who may need it. Fact: 90% of Deaf children are born to hearing parents. Whether it's for personal interest or necessity, The Center for Individuals with Physical Challenges is thrilled to introduce the autumn schedule for Sign Language Classes! In Tulsa and Jenks, The Center's Deaf & Hard of Hearing Services are offering Sign 1, 2, and 3 (non-credit) classes.

As a proud Partner Agency with Tulsa Area United Way, The Center for Individuals with Physical Challenges invites you to the Downtown Deco Challenge this Saturday, the 17th between 8am and Noon. Price Family Properties will donate $100 per person (up to $100,000) for everyone who
walks, rolls, runs, or bikes through the balloon arch. Bring your family, friends and pets (they count in the total), and help Tulsa Area United Way get to 1,000 people! At 11am they will be announcing their goal for the year in a huge way!
So come, show your support by walking through the arch, play with sidewalk chalk, and have a coffee! It will be a Saturday to remember, and all for an amazing cause! See you there!

This past weekend The Center for Individuals with Physical Challenges sent the Boccia Team to Council Bluff, Iowa! All players did extremely well. They learned so much from this experience and remain motivated to improve their game. In the championship rounds Bryan Lohmeyer placed 5th and Lee Jennings placed 6th. In the consolation rounds Melissa Gaskins placed 10th and Steven R Marrs placed 13th.
The Center Twisters are full of gratitude for all those who sponsor the adaptive sports teams. Your contributions make travel possible for these amazing athletes. Thank you!
Julie Chin did an amazing story on Positively Oklahoma on Channel 2, last Friday evening. She came to The Center for Individuals with Physical Challenges to focus on the adaptive sports programs offered at The Center. Sports Adaptive Coordinator and Member John Rutledge gave a touching and motivating interview about their journey and how The Center helped them get to where they are today.
