How to build your social media strategy:

1. Clearly define your target audience.
2. Focus on a few strategic social media channels and optimize them for search.
3. Develop your goals and tactics for reaching your target audience on each platform.
4. Measure the results and adjust accordingly for what is working and what's not.

At times, it's trial and error when it comes to what resonates with your audience however, if you have a really good understanding of who you’re serving, it's easier to communicate directly to the needs and wants of that individual.

This one is a hard pill to swallow for most of us... including me! (Kameron)

Many of us start service-based businesses because we enjoy the process and outcome of what we can do for others. However, as your business grows, you take on more clients and more offerings, your ability to juggle it all dwindles to the point of overwhelm and overload.

If you're at that point... where you feel like there's not enough time in the day for everything and things like posting and interacting on social media are getting pushed aside for bigger ticket tasks, it might be time to consider offloading some responsibility.

Think about it... it's been 16 years since I (Kameron) created my first Myspace account. Shortly after, I moved to Facebook and then added Instagram. The rest is history...

Social media allows businesses to potentially be in front of their ideal customer multiple times per day, create a community and encourage real connections by interacting, and can serve as a means of communication real-time updates about the business, merchandise, and more.

This verse is something one of our pastor's mentioned at church a couple of weeks ago and it's really been on my mind.

I feel this applies to our personal life as well as business dealings. How do you show hospitality in your business?

Biblically based hospitality is more than doing a good deed, but rather an act of obedience to God's commandment to "love your neighbor as yourself." (Matthew 22:39)

I am still learning to do this... I tend to grumble when I feel overwhelmed.

A goal of mine is to use Ollie Kat Design's social media accounts as a means of sharing valuable knowledge and inspiration to small business owners who aren't financially able to invest in my services. I aim to answer questions and help those who reach out with questions as time allows. If I can't answer right then, I will do my best to answer later or create a video or post to walk you through how to do something so it can help others as well.

College football is almost back and if you have a husband like mine, you understand what that means for your household.

You see, I married into sports. It's not something that I grew up around and definitely isn't the way I would choose to spend my time before I was married.

However, my husband loves all kinds of sports. It's sort of his love language in a way. So, I prioritize watching some games with him, asking questions to learn more about the sport, cheer for the same teams as he does, and even bought tickets for us to go to a game together.

I'm not pretending to like things that I didn't before we were married. I am loving my husband and learning his language so we can share a special piece of his life and history together.

Devoting my time to learning likes and dislikes of those I love most teaches me how to show up for them. How to speak their language. How to give them what they need to feel seen, heard, and cared for.

The same idea applies to marketing your business. Knowing who your customer is first, and then researching their likes, dislikes, struggles, and dreams so you're able to understand them and meet their needs... that's when you're really serving your audience.

If you want to make people feel seen, not just sold to, you must first understand them and put their wants and needs at the forefront of serving them. Serve before sell.

My family and I live in a small home, especially for the size of our family, and sometimes I have to get creative when it comes to storage and creating multi-use spaces.

As I’ve been cleaning out the Ollie Kat office space, I’ve chosen a few select pieces to bring home in order to create a “home office.” These shelves were two of the things I wanted to keep.

I’m not sure if this will be their final place in our home but I’m getting used to having them here.

I also sold my beloved L-shaped desk (sad day but went to a wonderful person) because we just didn’t have space for it.

I now have an electric adjustable standing desk with a walking pad, to try to move my body throughout the day.

If you work from home, what does your setup/office space look like? I’d love to hear how you make it work for you and your family.

It might seem silly to ask this question since the only way for you to read it is to be ON social media. However, there are so many times we come across business owners who have a love-hate relationship with social media, especially for their business.

Most business owners don't start a business because they want their main focus to be on marketing that said business. Most business owners honestly don't love to be in front of a camera. That being said, most business owners understand, at some level, the importance of being searchable and easily found online.

When you're serving customers or clients, they need to be able to find out information about you BEFORE they talk to you on the phone, visit your store, or do any type of business with you.

So, how can they do that?

There are many different marketing vehicles or tools that can be used to attract your target clients. Social media is one of those tools. But once you attract them to your social media accounts, what makes them like or follow your business? Better yet, what makes them become your customer?

Well, that's where marketing meets brand identity and content strategy. Your social media content should speak directly to your ideal customer.

The three E's you should think about with every piece of content that is posted on your page are: Engage, Educate, and Entertain.

If your post does one or more of those three things, you're good to go. As long as it's directed at YOUR TARGET AUDIENCE and contains quality content. If it hits, but with the wrong audience in mind, it's useless.

Engaging on social media can be extremely beneficial for your business accounts. Sharing your posts or posting organically in local groups can also help you gain followers, expand brand awareness, and increase lead generation for free.

You can either join the group as your business page, or join using your person account, and share posts. Make sure to follow group rules and regulations on self-promotion.

It's also a good idea to be an involved and helpful within the group by commenting and answering questions.
