People of Our Community Who Make a Difference - Kellie Pope
In a world where authentic altruism is needed more than ever, there remain individuals who make it their mission to help others. With their unwavering dedication to putting others before themselves, they continue to push past their boundaries and transform communities into a better place for the next generation. One of these individuals is Kellie Pope, and she is making it her goal to help guide Rose City youth towards confidence and leadership.
Mrs. Pope enjoys devoting her time and service to Promise Academy, a Christian-based elementary school located in North Tyler, and believes in dedicating herself to helping others.
“I am blessed to be able to share the gift of time with various organizations that are important to my family and me,” Mrs. Pope said. “Whether it is to share the love and hope of Jesus, meet the physical needs of those in our community, or to simply be an encourager to those I serve, I believe we all have something to give.”
Giving is something Mrs. Pope does not think twice about, as she serves Promise Academy in varied capacities.
“As a partner, volunteer, and board member at Promise Academy, I have the opportunity to serve the school and its students in a variety of ways, including volunteering in the lunchroom each week, supporting the staff through board activities, bringing others into the Promise family, and sharing what Promise Academy is doing with other communities,” Mrs. Pope said.
Volunteering at Promise Academy gives Mrs. Pope the dual benefit of serving the youth while staying true to her faith.
“The school’s mission is to cultivate wise, creative, and compassionate leaders through exemplary, Christ-centered education in North Tyler for the joy of our city and the glory of God,” Mrs. Pope said. “Promise Academy’s income-based tuition gives all families access to a Christian education, providing the only Christian elementary school serving North Tyler in the last 80+ years. What a privilege it is to watch this in action week after week.”
Originally from Commerce, Texas, Mrs. Pope is a graduate of Stephen F. Austin State University with a bachelor of business administration degree in finance. She and her husband, Rogers, have been married 11 years, and have five children: Trace, Elise, Will, Sydnie, and Casey. Prior to her service with Promise Academy, Mrs. Pope served as vice president of Grace Community School’s Parent Teacher Fellowship and is a former board member for the Greater Longview United Way.
Through it all, Mrs. Pope values her part in making the community a better place.
“I have found Tyler to be a community that constantly strives to improve, whether it is through the countless services offered to its residents, the invaluable nonprofit organizations in our area, or just residents loving their neighbor,” Mrs. Pope said. “It is an honor to play a small role in that.”
🌞 We hope everyone is having GREAT Summer fun!
Here's a reminder to keep the learning spirit alive this summer! Here are 3 reasons why it's crucial for children to continue learning during the break:
1. Prevent Learning Loss: Don't let those hard-earned skills fade away in the sun! Summer learning keeps minds sharp.
2. Maintain Progress: Keep that educational momentum going! Learning throughout the summer ensures a smooth transition back to school.
3. Promote Lifelong Learning: Cultivate a love for learning that lasts a lifetime. Summer is the perfect time to explore new interests and hobbies!
Let's make this summer a season of growth and discovery! 📚✨

Our Story
THE NEED
The families of North Tyler are looking for quality academic options. While Tyler's public schools are striving for improvement, many families are under-served or disenfranchised in their neighborhood schools. Tyler’s charter schools operate on a lottery system and are far from this community, south of the loop. The abundance of private schools in Tyler are all south of Front Street, and most of them are also south of the loop. Even if these schools were more geographically accessible, the financial chasm between already reduced tuition and the reality of these families is often impassible. Before Promise began in 2015, many families were left hoping that their children would be accepted to the magnet elementary school or would “win the lottery” at one of the charter schools.
THE MISSION
Cultivating wise, creative, and compassionate leaders through exemplary Christ-centered education in North Tyler for the joy of our city and the glory of God.
THE VISION
Promise Academy is founded on the conviction that all children are created for God’s glory and endowed by Him with an undeniable potential to acquire wisdom and knowledge. We join families in equipping their children to become responsible servant-leaders of the 21st Century, striving to create a school culture that is committed to the truth, discipline, and values of the gospel of Jesus Christ. We work to mobilize educational, business, church, and community leaders toward the goal of serving the children of Tyler with an excellent education. This inter-denominational school will seek to raise up kingdom citizens who work for justice, economic opportunity, racial harmony, hope for the family, and joy in their communities.
FIRST YEARS
Hosted at New Days Community Church, we opened in 2015 with a Kindergarten: 16 students, 2 experienced teachers, 1 bilingual aide. Our aim is to maximize use of resources from within the North Tyler community.
Now, we are located at the former Boys and Girls Club building at 504 W 32nd Street here in Tyler. We have grown to be a school of Kindergarten - third grade. We began the year with 40 students, and we have 4 teachers, two teaching assistants, and three administrative team members. Offering fine art, physical education, Spanish, and technology, we are interested in the education of the whole child.
Our goal is to add a grade per year until 5th grade.
