All our heroes play in the rain!
Popsicles to celebrate a great first week of school!
Random Acts of Science! These young heroes found out about Bernoulli's principle during free play. While they didn’t know the scientific name of what was happening to the balloon, the joy in their laughter announced the beginning of a lifetime of learning.
"What's *better* than a make-shift shed?? Nothing - 'cause it's *guaranteed* fun!"
Heroes earn badges when they take part in different chores. These badges are not only symbols of their achievement, but also a guiding light of their purpose: accountability, responsibility, doing their part, self-care, and time management. As they take on these tasks, they learn to take pride in their accomplishments, while growing into greater versions of themselves!
At Acton Academy, Guides believe that children can very well lead their own learning. They are there to nudge the heroes to observe and find inspiration. Guides create an environment where learning is fun, self-driven, and enthusiastic. Most importantly, they are there to help them believe in themselves and their true calling.

Happy Weekend, Everyone!
What matters is not what we teach; it's what they learn, and the probability of real learning is far higher when the students have a lot to say about both the content and the process.

Edgar Mancilla joined our team in 2022 as the Exploration Studio Guide. He graduated from Tyler Legacy in 2011 and holds an Associates Degree from Tyler Junior College.
Curious at heart, Edgar loves anything related to space, physics, or chemistry.
“I am a total nerd about science and love watching endless YouTube videos on these subjects”.
“Watching our heroes come together to collaborate, solve problems, and uplift each other will always be my favorite memories, and luckily we make new ones every day!”, says Edgar.
A fan of nature, Edgar loves photography and chess. He also enjoys serving at his local church.

Meet The Team!
Jordyn is our full-time Imagination Studio guide. She is a certified NAMC Early Childhood (3-6) Montessori Guide, and she has been working with Acton Academy Tyler for 3 years. Her hobbies are playing music, writing short stories, films, and musicals. She practices Krav Maga and loves reading books about cooking or gardening.
“The main thing that inspires me to work at Acton is that the model. We respect the minds, hearts, and innate talents of young people in a way that most educational systems do not.” says Jordyn.
Her favorite memories are seeing the learners in their natural environment. Sometimes it's reading a book or joining someone who starts to sing, finding a new bug or a rock and seeing all the other learners run over to marvel at the new discovery.
“I love seeing children in their natural curious and joyful state, especially when I am off to the side and just observing”, added Jordyn.
Tis I, Osiris, the favorite pet of heroes at Acton Academy Tyler, to wish you all an exciting week.
Wishing everyone a warm and cozy weekend!

Our Story
Learning is not just teaching children to the standards. It is a process, a series of experiences that lead to the great “aha!” moments of life. Interestingly, when a sample of adults were asked if they loved learning in school, most answered that the worry of getting the answer right and doing what the teacher expected (and later passing a test) took the joy out of learning. Many said that they learned to love learning by exploring things on their own at home, outdoors, or later when they got to college. Children at Acton Academy will experience genuine learning and will not be taught to the test like many of their peers.
We nurture a child’s love of learning by expanding on his or her own inquisitive nature. We know that teaching means much more than lessons and standards. We’re responsible for creating an environment of support that allows children to develop their own ideas, express their feelings, take risks, make choices, and most of all, grow to be strong, thinking individuals.
At Acton Academy Tyler, we use the latest in educational technology for self-paced mastery of reading, writing and math skills. Deep Socratic discussions take place about heroes, history and self governance to hone critical thinking skills and the ability to powerfully think, write and speak.
Hands-on project based Quests are used to master the tools and skills needed to solve problems in the real world. The children create and market a business to the community each year. Volunteerism is a critical component to weekly activities. Children are encouraged to spend time outdoors cultivating an organic garden and playing with friends in the playground.
