Tonight we may not be gathering in person, but let us rebel is what has become of this situation. Social media is filling up with the Word of God in this time. In the midst of quarantine the church has left its four walls and gone out amongst the people.
Take a minute to head over to our Church’s page and check out Dave’s daily messages.
We also wanted to leave you with this message from one of our sister churches on the district. Grace and peace on you tonight.

Latest Update: March 17, 2020
Hilltop Church Response to COVID-19
Dear Hilltop Church Family,
As events surrounding COVID-19 continue to develop and in order to be good stewards of public health, Hilltop Church of the Nazarene leadership team has chosen to suspend all in-person gatherings and events effective immediately through March 31.
At the end of this two-week period, we will evaluate how we will move forward based on the latest information from Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and government recommendations, along with directives from the General Church of the Nazarene.
Suspended gatherings include Sunday Morning Celebration, Sunday School, Sunday Evening Praise, Wednesday Night Bible Studies, Men’s SPAR, Life Groups, and all adult, youth and children’s ministry activities. Scheduled CPR Training (March 21) and Nazarene Safe Training (March 28) have both been postponed to a later date to be determined.
During this time, we will continue, as always, to be the church.
After much prayer and advisement, here is how we plan to move forward:
1. Sunday Celebration online.
We are working to provide a Sunday morning worship, prayer, and message time online for all our families. We will announce later this week how you can gather with us as we worship online.
2. Daily Hilltop Podcasts.
Beginning this Thursday, we will post to our Hilltop page a daily 10 minute podcast of the Word and prayer. This will be a short timely word of encouragement and prayer focused on how we as Jesus people live in faith and not in fear during these difficult and challenging times. We invite you to check the podcasts out and share them with family and friends.
3. Increased Facebook Presence.
We will share updates, ministry requests, podcasts, and the latest church news and announcements on our page. To find us on Facebook, go to facebook.com/HilltopCOTN/
4. Stay Connected To Your Hilltop Family.
All updates/news will be communicated to our church family through the following ways: Church emails, church texts, Hilltop website, and Hilltop page.
If you do not currently receive church emails or texts, please email [email protected] with your email address to use for church communications and your cell phone number for church texts. The Hilltop directory is accessible on the Hilltop APP under “Member Services.” Our directory is updated weekly.
5. Let’s Serve Each Other By Sharing and Meeting Needs
We will do our very best to make certain that each person and each family is cared for and ministered to throughout this season. Please help us in this by reaching out to shut-ins, those with health issues, and those with young children, to find out how we can serve them. This may include picking up groceries or supplies for them, visiting them, or making sure they have everything they need. It may involve making phone calls to those who are isolated and unable to leave their homes.
We have organized our leadership to respond around specific needs: material needs (house repairs, cleaning, yard work, physical labor, etc.); financial assistance; pastoral care (isolation, fear, shut-ins); health needs (doctor visits, pharmacy visits, etc.); groceries and hot meals; general assistance with errands; and technology needs (assistance with online services, Facebook, website, etc.)
If you hear of any needs, please let us know through any of multiple ways:
Website (hilltopnaz.church). On homepage, scroll to “Do You Have A Need or Questions?” form. Enter your info about any need and press “Submit.” The need will immediately be sent to the appropriate responders.
Email the church: [email protected]
Call church phone: 903-566-5553 (hotline); leave msg on Pastor Dave voicemail
Email Pastor Dave: [email protected]
Call Pastor Dave’s cellphone: 903-521-8003
Please note… Due to the latest visitor restrictions in place at all local hospitals, we are not able to provide pastoral hospital visits at this time.
6. We Need Your Continued Financial Support
Giving checks may be mailed to: Hilltop COTN, 10818 University Blvd., Tyler, TX 75707.
You may give online through easy and secure steps at: www.hilltopnaz.church/give. We will include in our Thursday podcast a how-to video giving instruction on setting up your online giving.
You may also give through the Hilltop app. The Hilltop Church of the Nazarene app may be downloaded at iTunes App store, Google Play, Amazon App store, or Roku Channel store.
7. Hilltop Church Facilities Will Be Thoroughly Cleaned And Disinfected.
We will clean the church weekly and make sure to disinfect everything before we resume in-person gatherings and ministries to ensure that the environment is as safe as possible for everyone. This includes disinfecting of the nursery and all nursery furniture and toys, all restrooms, all common meeting areas, doorknobs, and counter tops.
Above all, please remember this… THE LORD REIGNS. PERIOD.
As schools close, graduations get canceled, and life is massively disrupted, any illusions of control are quickly dispelled. Yet the reality is we were never in control in the first place. James 4:14 says, “What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes.” Let us remember the One who is truly in control and respond to His shaping hand in this situation.
The speed and severity of the spread of COVID-19 has taken us all by surprise. Given what the medical and scientific communities have learned thus far, we know that responsible social distancing may have a tremendously positive impact on reducing the rate of transmission and infection in a population. Slowing this rate allows our healthcare system to adequately meet the demand for treatment of those already infected, and to provide the highest quality of care for those in greatest need.
We, as a church, are grateful to do our part in limiting in-person gatherings for the immediate future, especially in the best interest of the most vulnerable to infection among us. We believe such action is very much in accordance with rightly loving our neighbors as ourselves.
So what can we do to BE THE CHURCH these next two weeks?
WALK in faith, not fear.
SPEAK encouragement and show grace when fear or anxiety wells up.
REACH OUT to those who may be particularly prone to loneliness.
ASK the Lord for wisdom in all circumstances and trust Him to provide it.
MEDITATE upon the promises of Scripture.
PRAY for the healing of the sick and their families.
PRAY for our health care professionals and first responders.
PRAY for our leaders tasked with making difficult decisions in this time.
PRAY for us as the Church to love others as Christ has first loved us, and for us to be those upon whom our neighbors may rely in time of need.
Thank you, Hilltop Church Family! Let us BE THE CHURCH in the love, soundness of mind, and life-giving power that our faithful God provides by His Spirit! This too, shall pass, and we shall be made stronger in the Lord as He brings us through it together!
In the Grace & Peace of Christ Jesus,
Pastor Dave Walker
“Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.”
