The Penn State College of Education (COE) was established in 1923.

The College is located primarily in four buildings just to the northwest of Pattee Library on Penn State's University Park Campus (between Pattee and Park Avenue).

Suzy Broadhurst, who received a bachelor's degree from the College of Education in 1966, is an honorary member of the Campaign Leadership Council. The group is charged with planning for a fundraising campaign, which is expected to be the most ambitious in Penn State’s history, and it will serve as the executive organization for a volunteer force that will eventually number more than 500 and represent all colleges and campuses and other units across the University.

Broadhurst is the retired director of corporate giving and a former board member for the Eat’n Park Hospitality Group.

Today began final research project presentations for students participating in SCOPE (Summer College Opportunity Program in Education).

SCOPE is a four-week intensive academic experience for high school students going into 11th grade this coming school year from diverse backgrounds interested in a career in education. Upon completion of the course, students receive college credit.

Presentations continue on Friday on the second floor of Chambers Building in the Krause Innovation Studio and the Krause Learning Space.

As Penn State’s Renaissance Fund celebrates its 48th year of recognizing outstanding community members and helping students in need, the Renaissance Fund Committee has announced that alumni, retired staff members, local volunteer leaders, and philanthropists Roger Williams and Karen Magnuson have been selected as the 2024 Renaissance Fund honorees.

Williams, a native of Huntingdon, Pennsylvania, completed three degrees at University Park, including a doctorate in higher education in 1988 He held an affiliate position in higher education in the College of Education.

Congratulations to Hunter Nations, who was named as the College of Education student marshal for the Penn State summer commencement ceremony scheduled for Saturday, August 10 at Bryce Jordan Center.

Nations, who is from Port Matilda, Pennsylvania, is graduating with a B.S.Ed. in secondary education (social studies) with minors in history as well as classics and Mediterranean studies.

Pleased to share this recent (open-access) article on the use of visual scene displays with young children! Dana Patenaude (current SPLED PhD student) and Zhigao Liang (recently graduated SPLED PhD student!) reviewed the current research using the CEC guidelines for EBP, and concluded "the use of VSDs and video VSDs can be considered an EBP in communication intervention for young children with ASD/IDD during social interaction activities commonly observed in early childhood settings."

Jennifer Jackson, a doctoral candidate in the Penn State College of Education, has been honored as the June 2024 Holmes Scholar of the Month by the AACTE (American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education) Holmes Scholars Program. Jackson recently defended her dissertation and will be graduating in August in curriculum and instruction with an emphasis on science education.

Yesterday, faculty, staff and affiliates of the Penn State College of Education bid farewell to Greg Kelly, Senior Associate Dean for Research and Outreach, who has been named as Dean of the College of Education at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Colleagues (past and present) shared fond memories of working with Dr. Kelly and wished him well on his next endeavor.

Dr. Kelly will begin his role at UMass Amherst on July 1 after being part of the College of Education's leadership team for 14 years during his two decades at Penn State. This is a bittersweet moment for us but we're excited about this new chapter in Dr. Kelly's distinguished career. 💙🎉

Congratulations to Greg Kelly, Senior Associate Dean for Research and Outreach in the Penn State College of Education, who has been named as Dean of the College of Education at the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

Kelly will begin his role at UMass Amherst on July 1 after being part of the College of Education's leadership team for 14 years during his two decades at Penn State.

While we are sad to see him leave Penn State, we thank him for his years of distinguished and outstanding service to our college and wish him the best as he begins this next chapter in his academic career.
