Did you know that the development of good dictionaries requires the help of qualified linguistic consultants? Knowledge of phonology, morphology, historical linguistics, and sociolinguistics are key to becoming a lexicographer.

Did you know that linguists are great at language instruction? Your students will benefit from your knowledge of language structure, and your ability to make certain aspects of the language especially clear.

Did you know that linguists work in the publishing industry as technical writers, or as a journalists? The verbal skills that linguists develop are ideal for positions in editing, publishing, and writing.

Did you know that some agencies seek linguists to work with language consultants in order to document, analyze, and preserve languages (many of which are endangered)? Some organizations engage in establishing literacy programs, and translating documents of cultural heritage.

Did you know that if you go on to get a graduate degree in linguistics, you might teach in departments such as Linguistics, Philosophy, Psychology, Anthropology, English, Speech/Communication Science, and many others?

Did you know that people with a background in linguistics and education can develop materials for different populations, train teachers, design assessments, or find effective ways to leach language-related topics in specific communities?

Did you know that training in linguistics can equip you to work on speech recognition, text-to-speech synthesis, artificial intelligence, natural language processing, and computer-mediated language learning?

Our first meeting will be next Thursday, September 7th, at 6:00 p.m. in Lincoln Hall, Room 1024.

During this meeting, we will go over information about the club, and have some snacks on the quad afterwards.

September 1st – “10th day” add/drop deadline to add or drop a full semester course.

Deadline for ALL students to drop or reduce POT 1 (full semester) hours and receive refund if tuition range changes or billing hours decrease.
