We are proud to call Ellen McComas a client and couldn't be happier for her!
Her husband, in same Iowa state job, was paid much more. So she sued ― and won Ellen McComas was hired by the state to replace her husband as a disability hearing officer, but was paid much less than him and another man
We are pleased to announce today's verdict in favor of our client Kaitlyn Roth in her case against her former employer First Capitol Baking Inc. The jury found First Capitol illegally terminated Kaitlyn in retaliation for requesting an accommodation. While the jury made a modest award for emotional distress, it fully awarded her the amount she requested for lost wages (~$23,000). Additionally, under the Iowa Civil Rights Act we will recover Kaitlyn's attorney's fees and expenses which are likely to be significant.
Congrats to Kaitlyn!
Eight years in a row! We are pleased to announce that Andy LeGrant has once again been named as a "Great Plains Super Lawyer." From superlawyers.com: "Super Lawyers is a rating service of outstanding lawyers from more than 70 practice areas who have attained a high-degree of peer recognition and professional achievement. The patented selection process includes independent research, peer nominations and peer evaluations."
A DECADE!!!
Happy birthday to LeGrant Law Firm! It's been 10 years since our practice officially came into existence, and we've been using our advocacy skills to pursue workplace justice ever since. We're a bit wiser, a bit more battle-hardened, and as enthusiastic as ever to pursue our clients' objectives both in and out of the courtroom.
Ten years ago, setting up shop felt like (and actually was) a huge leap of faith. Now, we have a track record of handling routine and cutting edge matters alike.
Thanks to those who have believed in and supported this thing. Here's to another 10 years!
We are pleased to announce that, for the seventh straight year, Andy LeGrant has been named as a "Great Plains Super Lawyer." From superlawyers.com: "Super Lawyers is a rating service of outstanding lawyers from more than 70 practice areas who have attained a high-degree of peer recognition and professional achievement. The patented selection process includes independent research, peer nominations and peer evaluations."
Honored to once again receive this distinction as our fight for workplace fairness continues.
We are happy to announce that this afternoon a Poweshiek County jury returned a verdict in favor of our client Katina Woodfork. The jury found in favor of Katina on her hostile work environment claim against her former employer, Jeld-Wen, Inc., and awarded her $35,000 in emotional distress damages. Additionally, pursuant to the Iowa Civil Rights Act, Katina will be entitled to recover her attorney's fees and litigation expenses.
Congratulations, Katina!
We are pleased to announce that today a Pottawattamie County jury returned a verdict in favor of our client Rich Young. While the jury reduced the award due to the Defendant's "failure to mitigate damages" defense, it awarded Rich back pay. More specifically, the jury found that the employer illegally subjected our client to workplace drug testing.
Congrats Rich!
This Teen Reported Her Chili's Manager For Sexual Harassment And Her Coworkers Threw A Party To Shame Her
A prime example of how an employer should NOT respond to a complaint of sexual harassment (article contains profanity):

We are pleased to announce that yesterday a district court in Monroe County entered judgment in our client Zane Algreen's favor. The favorable ruling followed a trial to the Court about a week ago on our fraudulent transfer claim. This recent trial followed a favorable verdict in a jury trial in the spring of 2015. After the first trial and verdict, we uncovered evidence that the defendant was moving/transferring assets to prevent Mr. Algreen from satisfying his judgment and collecting any of the money he was owed.
With the most recent judgment, the Court awarded our client punitive damages and held the individual defendant liable, along with the corporate defendant, for the underlying judgment (from the first trial). In addition, we anticipate that the defendants will be liable to our firm for additional attorney's fees associated with the second lawsuit we filed and second verdict we obtained on Mr. Algreen's behalf.
This case truly presents an example of a gritty and determined client who was prepared to go the distance for justice. Congratulations to Zane!

LeGrant Law Firm officially came into existence three years ago today. This past year we've settled into our new office space, added our first associate attorney Maggie White, and brought on our office manager Antonia Sicilia. I don't know what the future holds, but if the past three years are any indication, I can't wait to find out.

Seattle-Area Teenager Loses Job After Wearing Broncos Jersey To Work
No, one's sports team preference is not a "protected class" but this is silly. In fairness, there seems to have been some confusion on his return to work but employers... USE COMMON SENSE.
