Our State Swim Team finished the 2023-2024 Season in historic fashion in Atlanta on Saturday.
Throughout the season, all high school swimmers have the opportunity to qualify for the annual state meet by swimming challenging time standards in both individual events and relays.
This year, our Catfish qualified in 5 different events, a school record.
Qualified swimmers statewide compete annually at Georgia Tech - first in preliminary rounds, where the top 20 times in each event then move on to finals to score points for the team title.
Highlights of Saturday's meet were:
- 200 Medley Relay - Stella Blevins (back), Ann Harrell Blevins (breast), Amelia Blevins (fly), and Kerry Smith (free) - swam a school record of 2:01.81 to TIE for 20th. This resulted in a swim-off and a thrilling come-from-behind victory with ANOTHER school record of 2:00.36 to become the FIRST Valdosta High School relay to EVER reach a state final. The girls finished 19th in the 7A competition and scored 4 points.
- 200 IM - Amelia Blevins swam a 2:19.77 to secure a spot in the finals, where she earned 18th place (and 6th freshman) in the 7A competition and scored 3 points for the team.

Tonight, Valdosta and Lowndes High School Vikings State Swim teams came together to enjoy dinner the night before their big State Meet.
Rivals? Yes, however these kids have a deep bond. For many years these swimmers from Valdosta and Lowndes High Schools have trained and competed with each other through their club and community swim teams as cohorts.
Tomorrow, rest assured they will compete against each other with vigor; however, in the end these “rivals” and friends will share a bond in the spirit of Winnersville.
Go Cats and Go Vikings!
Join us in wishing our 2023-2024 State Swim Team good luck and safe travels as they head to Atlanta for the GHSA 7A State Championship Meet taking place tomorrow at Georgia Tech!
