What an incredible evening!

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us and The Haven for the 2024 Unite dinner with the amazing Coach Mark Richt!

This year, the GVUW is investing $600,000 into the community thanks to Bruce Williams, a local banker and philanthropist who left an endowment to the organization. Through the creation of the Bruce Williams Legacy Grant, the GVUW is funding the projects of 18 partner nonprofits to assist in their effort to make capital improvements to their operations.

The grant opportunity was split into two phases, each for $300,000, and awards were granted based on the recommendations of a committee comprised of past and current board members and local community leaders.

Habitat for Humanity was one of the 18 recipients of this grant, and we had the opportunity to attend the showcase of their new box truck and the dedication to Bruce Williams through the project.

We are proud of the impact Habitat for Humanity is making on the community, and are happy to see how the Bruce Williams Legacy Grant will live on through this project!

On Monday at midnight, Lowndes County Emergency Management activated the Emergency Operations Center. Responders from across the community, representing local governments, state agencies, utilities, healthcare and more were there to monitor conditions and initiate response as needed due to Hurricane Debby.

We are so thankful for community partners like the Greater Valdosta United Way and Jessie's Restaurant and Catering for providing the EOC with meals for those working through the storm.

Thank you! 😊

Valdosta City Schools will reopen on Wednesday, August 7, 2024.

After thorough inspections of all VCS facilities, we have determined that we can safely resume operations and begin the 2024-25 school year despite the challenges posed by Tropical Storm Debby. Bringing everyone back into our buildings will ensure that students experiencing food insecurity have access to breakfast and lunch, as well as a cool, dry environment.

We recognize that Tropical Storm Debby has created ongoing difficulties for some. However, we believe that reopening our schools will provide essential support to students and their families as we collectively establish new routines for the academic year.

We appreciate your patience, support, and cooperation as we navigate these unexpected challenges, especially at the start of a school year that already presents its own set of hurdles. If you have any specific questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to our school system or your child’s school administration team for assistance.

Thank you once again for your commitment to our school community.Valdosta City Schools will reopen on Wednesday, August 7, 2024.

We had the privilege of attending the United Ways of Georgia State Association and ALICE Boot Camp yesterday in Macon, Georgia. Twenty-eight United Way directors and staff attended to review and learn how to use the data on ALICE families.

ALICE are members of our community who are living above the Federal Poverty Level but are still struggling to make ends meet.

This resource will be a game changer for the state of Georgia, and we cannot wait to roll it out!
