Want to know the secret to feeling calmer on YOUR terms? 🤫
✨ Yep, I’m talking about vagus nerve stimulation! ✨
The vagus nerve is the longest cranial nerve in the body. It’s connected to the brain and runs down through the neck and into the abdomen. There are two branches of the nervous system:
👉 The parasympathetic nervous system (rest & digest)
👉 And the sympathetic nervous system (fight or flight)
When the vagus nerve is stimulated, it activates the parasympathetic nervous system and can help to reduce stress and promote feelings of calm, as well as so many other amazing benefits:
🔸Aids in neurogenesis, the process of creating new brain cells
🔸Helps fight inflammatory diseases
🔸Plays a role in blood pressure regulation
🔸Can help with depression, anxiety, and insomnia
🔸Increases levels of human growth hormone
🔸Lowers allergic responses
🔸Helps preserve and grow mitochondria (super important for energy production!)
So, how can we activate this secret rest & digest “button”? 🤷♀️⬇️
✅ Method #1 - physical vagus nerve exercises
Vocal activities such as singing or chanting can stimulate the vagus nerve through the physical vibrations of the vocal cords. Try these out next time you’re feeling stressed:
🔹Gargling
🔹Chanting the word “Om”
🔹Singing
🔹Laughing
🔹Cold water exposure
🔹Deep breathing
✅ Method #2 - psychological vagus nerve exercises
The vagus nerve can also be stimulated through thoughts and emotions. Your emotional responses must be supportive and calming, however. This means trying activities such as:
🔹Gratitude journaling
🔹Meditating
🔹Spending time in nature
🔹Watching the sunset
🔹Playing with your pets
📌 Next time you’re feeling stressed, try a few techniques from either list and observe how they make you feel!

Unbelievable !!!
(in gratitude to those who have given up on me)
thank you for walking out the door,
~ because in doing so, you inadvertently made space for someone else to come along who won’t
thank you for leaving me behind,
~ because it turns out that I was just blindly following behind you, and now, I’m blazing my own path through the unfolding wild
thank you for cutting me out of your life,
~ because when you did I became a stringless kite that smooches horizons and hunts for hidden waterfalls
thank you for writing yourself out of my story
~because it is now clear that I had accidentally let you become my narrator
thank you for treating our relationship like it was a business transaction
~ because you taught me that not all relationships are meant to last forever - some have short life cycles that bloom brilliantly just to wilt into dust overnight - and that’s totally okay
thank you for telling me how uncomfortable you are with all the ways that you think I have “changed” as you walked out on me
~ because your words reminded me that my soul is a billowing cloud
thank you for discounting me
~ because it instructed me to quit placing my worth in the hands of other people
thank you for releasing me from your orbit
~because I realize I’m meant to be a whisking comet and not a stranded moon
thank you for condemning me
~ because you proved to me (a theory that I’ve been working out) that the bricks of hell are made of “well-intended” judgement
thank you for ghosting me at my lowest moment of my life
~ because in my isolation I had the time to remodel my rock bottom into a basement chapel where the sunset candles never flicker and my every tear that I shed is added to the rippling baptismal font
thank you for disappearing from my life without a trace
~ because it turns out that you were blocking the light from getting in
thank you for abandoning me
~ because in my abject loneliness I had no choice but to learn how to fall in love with myself all over again
thank you for giving up on me due to you believing that “I’m not the same person I used to be”
-because I’ve learned to take that accusation as a compliment
