Unfortunately, most cases of Lung Cancer do not show symptoms until they have started to spread. This is why early and regular screenings are one of the best ways to combat the disease. Some early cancer may show signs of symptoms, persistent cough, coughing up blood, chest pain, etc. But that is not always the case. After cancer diagnosis, the staging process provides pertanent information about the extent of the lung cancer and the necessary steps of treatment going forward. Just remember, early/regular screening is the best way of fighting off lung cancer, and for more information on lung cancer symptoms and treatments, click on the link below.

This month, we are spending this time highlighting some of the fantastic individuals at Oceanview Medical Specialists.

Dr. Scott Underwood is widely respected for his expertise in the treatment of liver disease. As a University of Arizona trained internist, he became interested in Hepatitis C infection and treatment, 12 years ago, when remarkable advances in directed therapy began to evolve. Realizing the tremendous impact Hepatitis C treatment could have on patient survival, Dr. Underwood wanted to expand access to care and developed the VCMC Hepatology Clinic. Through his leadership, the clinic brought important treatment to people irrespective of their ability to pay and improved access to specially trained medical staff. Hepatitis continues to be a clinical challenge but thanks to Dr. Underwood, we now have a program delivering outstanding high-quality care in the Ventura County Medical Center clinic system.

As we round out the month of March and our coverage on Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, here is a small graphic highlighting some of the important factors too remember when it comes to Colorectal Cancer.

03/24/2022

This week, we are focusing on ways we can reduce our risk of Colorectal Cancer. Colorectal Caner actually begins as polyps in the colon that can be present years before cancer develops. Diet, physical activity, maintaining a healthy, weight, and limiting alcohol consumption are all great ways to reduce risk. Overall, he most effective way to reduce your risk of colorectal cancer is to get screened for colorectal cancer routinely, beginning at age 45.

03/17/2022

Our coverage of Colorectal Cancer continues this week with a overview of what this is. Colorectal Cancer is a disease where the cells in the colon or re**um grow out of control. Early screening can help detect polyps, which are possibly cancerous abnormal growths, and remove them before them become an issue. We continue to promote using this month of March to educate ourselves on the disease and, if applicable, getting early screening to help catch Colorectal Cancer early.
