At this time, we unfortunately cannot take any more dogs into the rescue until we raise more funds to help cover our vet costs. We have had many medical emergencies with Rex and Zeus as well as multiple dogs getting their regular vetting, spay/neuter, gastropexies and other supplies (food, beds, raised feeders, etc.)
We are a very small rescue and do not have any state funding. All of our funds come through donations from our followers.

Join us this Friday, June 28th, at Liquor Barn in Hamburg for a delightful meet and greet! From 2-5 pm, meet our adorable adoptable dogs and kick off your weekend with furry cuddles and your favorite spirits. Don't miss out โ let's make this Friday unforgettable together! See you there!
Please consider crate training your dog, even if itโs only to be used occasionally.
Crate training is a LIFE SKILL that every dog should learn for their own safety and mental health. When properly used crates should be a safe space for your dog to feel comfortable and relaxed, not a punishment. Even if you choose not to crate your dog regularly, teaching them how to settle in a crate can make all the difference in many situations- stays at the veterinary clinic, grooming appointments, boarding, disaster response, and transport are just a few that come to mind! Staff spent the day learning techniques to help our dogs learn about crates as they prep for their new homes!
Thanks to Devil Dog K9 Fitness & Training for donating time and sharing knowledge with our pups and staff. Reach out to them for information on training assistance for your own pups!
Good news for your Saturday morning!

If you see a mom cat outside with kittens, please get a spay appointment on the calendar ASAP at a low-cost clinic so she doesn't have to give birth again. Mom cat can safely be spayed when her kittens are about 6 to 8 weeks old.
Also, make sure her kittens are spayed/neutered before 4 months so the cycle doesn't continue.

LEXINGTON ORDINANCE TO DRY UP THE PUPPY MILL TO PET STORE PIPELINE being considered this Tuesday at 3pm, City Government Building, 200 E. Main St. If it is passed at this meeting it will be have first reading Thursday at 6pm.
PLEASE COME and wear purple for puppies if you can. You donโt need to speak or be a Fayette County resident. If you cannot make theTues. meeting, please attend the 1st reading on Thurs. May 16th at 6:00 pm.
THERE IS OPPOSITION so we need to show the council that Kentuckians want to protect puppies and kittens (and their parents) from the cruelties of puppy mills and irresponsible breeders.
ATTENTION LEXINGTON:
The Lexington humane pet sales ordinance received overwhelming support last month from a Lexington-Fayette Urban County Council committee and will soon be going before the full Council.
Next steps: how you can help:
CALL your City Council Representative asking them to support the Humane Pet Sales Ordinance. Example: "I live in your district, and am asking you to please support the Humane Pet Sales Ordinance to prohibit the sale of puppy mill puppies in Lexington pet stores."
There is pushback from local retailers, so your council member needs to hear you support the humane pet sales ordinance.
Here is a link with contact info if you donโt know who your council member is: https://www.lexingtonky.gov/browse/government/council
After your call, please email a follow-up message to your Councilmember.
If you represent a shelter or advocacy group in Lexington or not, please send an email of support on behalf of your organization to all council members. https://www.lexingtonky.gov/departments/urban-county-council

Grooming your pet is essential for its well-being. Failure to groom regularly isn't just a cosmetic issueโit's a form of neglect that can cause real pain and health problems for your pet.
Just like regular vet visits, grooming plays a crucial role in your pet's overall health. For dogs and cats, proper hair hygiene is vital. Failure to groom can lead to severe matting or pelting, which hampers temperature regulation, causes skin irritation, harbors parasites like fleas, and even results in painful hematomas, restricting your pet's movement.
By brushing your pet regularly at home and scheduling professional grooming sessions, you can prevent these issues and extend the time between grooms. Remember, grooming isn't only about aesthetics โ it's about fulfilling your responsibility as a pet owner to keep your beloved companion healthy, clean, and protected from harm.
