What a gorgeous day at West Michigan Academy of Environmental Scienceβs Animal Discovery Camp! Campers harvested zucchini, trellised squash, collected amphibians in the forest, and dipped for frogs at the pond. They made two fascinating discoveries: a Ghost pipe plant in the forest and a Praying mantis at the pond. The Ghost pipe, a plant that lacks chlorophyll, appears after rains and warm weather. See if you can find one

What an amazing week of Survival Camp at West Michigan Academy of Environmental Science! Campers explored edible and medicinal plants, crafting salve from wild mint and pine. They learned to make fires with ferro rods, practiced spear throwing with atlatls, built shelters, and cooked lunch over their fires. So many new skills and friendships blossomed!

We had a great Garden Get Together Monday Our garden gurus planted many varieties of flowers, helped w**d, stayed cool with the hose, made an herb garden to take home and had some garlic scape toast. Thanks to those who came out to help. Our next Garden Get Together is Monday July 8th from 9-11am. Weβll be harvesting our garlic and having a little yummy garlic taste test

They spent the first part of the trip building burn piles for wildfire mitigation with the Headwaters Trail Alliance, and then the following couple days sprucing up some recreation areas with the US Forest Service!

Last week was perfect for outdoor learning! Mrs Howardβs 3rd grade class spent Friday outside, 5th grade celebrated their survival until in the forest, 1st grade made bug hotels, 4th grade dissected owl pellets and many students helped plant our school garden. Another wonderful field trip, this time 4th graders participated in the program at created by the Students were engaged in a presentation designed to focus on meeting 4th grade curriculum through experiential learning. Students learned that Michigan state parks are for all of us and that a lifetime of spending time outdoors is good for our physical and mental health. We had a beautiful hike on the trails where students spent quiet time journaling and observing. Then it was beach time! Thanks to all the parents for taking time to chaperone and spend time with your child outdoors

3rd grade had a fun-filled and educational day They participated in the Cultural History program and learned from many replicas of the Indigenous people of Michigan. They played traditional games, learned how to make corn flour, used AtlAtlβs, a traditional hunting tool and visited many buildings that were used by the Anishinaabe
Fluttering into Fun and Learning with Ms. Rose's First-Grade Class! π¦β¨
Her first graders have been on an incredible journey, observing the life cycle of butterflies right in their classroom! From watching tiny caterpillars grow, to witnessing the magical transformation into chrysalises, and finally seeing beautiful butterflies emerge, itβs been an unforgettable experience. Hands-on learning at its best! π±β€οΈ

4th grade enjoyed a wonderful hands on program funded and presented by the Nature Awaits educators. We traveled to Hoffmaster State Park where the students learned that the Michigan State Parks belong to all of us and how they are responsible for the protection of our beautiful natural resources . These students did a stellar job of SOARing while on the hike and is so proud of their behavior. After the program we hit the beach and played on the shores of Lake Michigan
