When clients come in for a hair extension consultation, I always emphasize the importance of commitment and the significant change that getting hair extensions involves.

I LOVE how extensions can transform your look and are a great option for a lot of people, but there are a few things to consider before taking the plunge.

Extensions may not be for you if you:

1️⃣ Prefer very low-maintenance hair

2️⃣ Are not willing to come to the salon for maintenance every 6-8 weeks

3️⃣ Do not want to take time to detangle your hair and separate them DAILY for a good brushing

4️⃣ Are looking for a low-cost or budget option

5️⃣ Have natural hair that is severely damaged or fragile.

6️⃣ Engage in frequent activities or lifestyle that could damage the extensions such as swimming in the [ocean, pool, lake, etc] without proper care

One thing that I can say is this mom stuff is a full time job but so amazing and rewarding. Just as it is starting to get easier and I am getting the hang of it, it’s now going to be about learning to juggle work and mom life together. There’s so many of you that do it so well - I hope I can too.

7 Simple Tips To Keep Your Hair Tangle-Free

1.Always condition your hair. No matter your hair type, conditioner should be an important aspec of your haircare routine.

2.Use a hair mask once a week. Or once every two weeks if you don’t shampoo as often.

3.Use a wide-tooth wooden comb or a wet brush. Start at the bottom when detangling hair to avoid causing more damage.

4.Rinse with cold water. 🥶 This closes down the cuticle and will help the hair lay down.

5.Use less heat. I know we think. Heat isn’t that bad but when it comes to already compromised hair the less heat the better.

6. Pick the right products. You hair is lacking moisture and needs all it can get. Use a leave in conditioner and a detangling product and a hair oil. It won’t be too much, your hair will thank you later.

7. Your hairstyle matters. Opt for braids or styles that cause less friction on the hair.

“Should I use hair oil even if my hair is oily?”

I get this question a lot and the answer is heck yes! All hair benefits from hair oil. The trick is finding the right oil that works for you!

Hair oil is a game-changer when it comes to nourishing and revitalizing your locks. Here's why it's a must-have in your haircare routine:

So, don't shy away from hair oil, even if you have oily hair. The key is to choose a lightweight formula and apply it sparingly, focusing on the mid-lengths and ends of your hair. My favorite hair oil for naturally oily hair is Semi DiLino Cristali Spray! It’s super light weight and can be layered for days when you are feeling dryer.

Hair Shedding 101: What's Normal and When to Be Concerned! 🌱✂️

Hair shedding is a natural part of the hair growth cycle, but knowing what's normal and when to be concerned can be tricky and there are a lot of factors that can affect our hair growth cycle!

On average, we lose around 50-100 strands of hair per day! So don’t be alarmed by some hair in the shower drain. It is likely just part of the regrowth cycle. Old hair sheds to make way for new hair growth!

Other factors can contribute to an increase in hair shedding that is normal and most likely temporary! Many people experience increased shedding during seasonal changes, typically in spring and fall. Also, many people experience shedding after giving birth. Hormonal changes can lead to temporary hair loss. Rest assured, it usually resolves on its own within a few months.

Now you’re probably wondering what would be considered abnormal shedding experiences. At the end of the day, you know your hair best. But in general, if you experience any of the following it might be time to reach out to your hairstylist and/or physician.

🧡Sudden and Excessive Shedding: If you notice a dramatic increase in hair loss, it may indicate an underlying issue.

🧡Patchy Hair Loss: Bald patches or irregular hair loss could be signs of conditions like alopecia areata.

🧡Scalp Irritation: Persistent itching, redness, or flaking accompanied by increased shedding may indicate scalp conditions that require attention.

🧡Thinning Hair: Gradual thinning over time, particularly in specific areas, may be a sign of genetic, hormonal or medical factors.
