I thoroughly enjoyed meeting up with some of the doulas in our area. We talked about our experiences of doulaing in our community, as well as our personal maternal health experiences and challenges over good food!! I can’t wait until the next one 🩷!! These ladies are awesome 🤩!!

On Friday, May 10, 2024 at 1:45 pm, baby girl flew into this world weighing 6 lbs and 2 oz 😅! It was beautiful to witness her mom maneuver her first induction, and listen to her body throughout the whole birthing experience. Double hip squeezes definitely were the MVPs for this natural birth!! Happy Birthday Baby Yff!!

I didn’t take a lot of pictures yesterday, but the It Takes A Village-Maternal Health Expo was a huge success 🙌🏾!! I was so glad to be able to get around to most of the vendors! I can’t wait to get all the information I collected together so I can share it!! A special thank you to everyone that participated…giving us the opportunity to serve the Macon-Bibb community.

It Takes A Village Maternal Health Expo invites the community to attend the 3rd Annual It Takes A Village - Maternal Health Expo on April 20, 2024. The event’s purpose is to provide education and resources from within our community and state to help keep the maternal family safe. This year the Expo’s focus is on Dads. We cannot conquer the maternal mortality rates in silos therefore it is important to educate the one closest to the mom to help ensure her safety.

The event will bring awareness to the maternal mortality and morbidity rates in the state of Georgia and our local community. It will empower attendees with resources to help keep mothers and babies safe. It really does take a village to keep our maternal families safe.

Statistics:

~Georgia ranks #3 in the nation for maternal mortality. (CDC)

~African American women are 3 to 4 times more likely to die from a postpartum incident than their white counterparts. (CDC)

~The United States has the highest maternal mortality rates among most developed countries. (CDC)

The expo will be on April 20, 2024, from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. at Memorial Park Community Center, located at 2465 2nd Street Macon, GA 31206. There will be hospitals, doulas, therapists, physicians, music, door prizes, and so much more!

It Takes A Village-Maternal Health Expo is partnering with the Macon-Bibb County Health Department to host this event. The health department is dedicated to preventing disease, promoting health, and protecting our community against health threats through education, service, advocacy, and collaboration.

Happy Black Maternal Health Week 🫶🏾!!! Thank you to for creating this week, and a platform that joins dozens upon dozens of organizations together to combat the issues of Black maternal health! The theme for BMHW 2024 is “Our Bodies STILL Belong to Us: Reproductive Justice NOW!” Widespread restrictions on abortion care access coupled with rising cases of criminalization due to pregnancy loss continue to widen the gaps of adverse maternal and birth outcomes in the U.S.

Happy World Doula Week 🫶🏾🌻!!!

The purpose of World Doula Week (WDW) is to empower doulas all over the world to improve the physiological, social, emotional, and psychological health of women, newborns and families in birth and in the postpartum period. The World Doula Week events will take place all over the world during the same week, stating the benefits of the presence of doulas in birth and in the postpartum period:

~Reduces the incidence of C-sections
~Increases new parents’ confidence in the care of their newborn
~May shorten the length of labor
~Reduces epidural and analgesic requests
~Increases breastfeeding initiation and continuation
~Increases mother’s satisfaction of birth experience
~Can reduce the incidence of postpartum mood disorders

When is World Doula Week?

World Doula Week begins with World Doula Day on March 22nd and will go through March 28th annually. March 22 was chosen because it is the spring equinox, which represents the return of fertility in countless cultures 🙂.

Today, I want to shout out Ashanti Travey. I have known Ashanti for years now through mutual friends and work. She has always been a gentle soul but a firecracker if she needs too. We see each other and can start talking about anything. I admire her for 2 main reasons: her strength and her passion!

Her strength was displayed when she loss her mother unexpectedly. I was so broken for her because I couldn't imagine losing my mom so unexpectedly especially when she is like your best friend. The strength she displayed was unimaginable. Also, she has been a pillar for her family through it all. Her passion and her business is helping new and future moms, The Bloom Doula. She is ready to educate and support mothers. I always say how important doulas are and I wish I would have known as a young mother.

Among all that she does and all that she has endured, she is a single mother of a beautiful little girl. She is out there helping others while raising a queen of her own. Keep up the good work and spreading your love throughout the community. It doesn't go unnoticed! 🩷

Prolactin hormone responsible for milk production, reaches its highest levels during the early morning hours,
particularly in the wee hours of the morning!

Your pumping session between 2am and 6am is likely to yield a larger amount of milk, while your evening session might be smaller.

While various factors can influence this, it’s perfectly natural for your milk supply to vary throughout the day!

This mama is going back to work soon and is using this pump session to make sure she has a freezer stash for when her baby is with Grandma.

Happy first day of February 🩷!! Happy Black History Month ✊🏾!! We survived the first month of 2024…that’s a blessing within itself ✨!!

Most don’t know but I am a member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., and this is my second year chairing this event! One of our National projects is Project Cradle Care 🫶🏾! Project Cradle Care is a prenatal education and resource program that seeks to improve pregnancy outcomes in high-risk communities by increasing the number of women of childbearing age who receive adequate prenatal education and prenatal care, and who better understand proper infant care and child development.

This year the Delta Pi Sigma Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. is hosting a community baby shower February 17, 2024 from 11 am to 2 pm.
This event will be held at the Galleria Mall (open common area by JCPenny) located at Galleria Mall Drive, Warner Robins, GA 31088.

Thank you Macon-Bibb EOCI for allowing me to speak to your prenatal moms about preparing for birth, and labor and birth!! This was my first speaking engagement outside of teaching during my prenatal sessions, and it was pretty cool 😎!!! This year is already shaping up to be about spreading my wings to broaden my horizons 🫶🏾!!!

Today I did a two-in-one prenatal session with my client and her fiancé . There has been a potential shift in the birth plan due to a mild pre-eclampsia diagnosis, so she asked if we can combine prenatals just in case she has to be induced at 37/38 weeks. This was probably one of the best sessions I’ve had to do so far. Simply because I can tell I’m starting to grow more in my doulahood, and I love that for me AND my future clients 😁!!

Passion/heart work is God’s way of using you to manifest His purpose through the gift He has instilled in you. Tap into that and never second guess yourself. He will not bring a calling to you that He will not support you in or through 🫶🏾.

Saturdays are for maternal health talks even when you’re on break 😁! Peach Talk 2.0 was ssssoooo good. We got to watch and listen to two interviews from moms on their pregnancy and birthing experiences. I gained a lot of newer information, got to see some beautiful faces, eat good food, and talk all things black maternal health. I brought in today helping one of my clients, and she got to celebrate her first Mother’s Day with her beautiful baby boy 💙. Motherhood is challenging, exhausting, and requires a lot of self-sacrifice especially if you are a single mom. It is also a blessing and I am grateful to hold the title that many wish they could but simply can’t for various reasons.

This day of celebration has not been the same for me personally since my mom passed a few years ago, but I’m thankful that the purpose God gave me allows me to help welcome mamas into a new chapter of motherhood on a regular basis *as one of my clients just said* 🙂.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the awesome moms out there 🌷.

Baby EJ is here!! Born at 10:31 pm and weighing 8 lbs and 0.5 oz. Mama and baby are doing well!! Dad, Grandma, and Grandpa are so proud!! Happy Birthday Baby Boy 🥳💙🎉!!!

Several years ago before I decided to officially start my doula business, my best friend sowed a seed into my business, and my Mom gave me my first pieces of doula merchandise 🙂. Sadly, she would not see me fully manifest my passion in her physical body because she passed away two years ago today 🕊️.

My Mom was my biggest supporter, and I’m thankful that I have these items as a constant reminder that she believed in me even when I didn’t fully believe in myself and thought I was in wwaayyy over my head! Today we celebrate her beautiful life 🌻.

I’m so thankful to have her as a mother, and I’m even more thankful that even in death I know she is still with me rooting for me and cheering me on!! Happy 2nd Angelversary Mommie 🕊️🫶🏾🎉!!! I love you SO much 💛!!!
