SAFE 4 Equity
We are committed to fighting for small cannabis businesses, especially those minority and women owned
"The Act addresses crucial needs for the cannabis industry, especially small and minority-owned operators. Without access to capital, we remain at a significant disadvantage, and the industry will never reach its full potential with regard to diversity and inclusion" - Antonio Valdez of NHCC - National Hispanic Cannabis Council.
Today the Senate is meeting to discuss . This bipartisan legislation is crucial for minority-owned businesses, small businesses, and anyone directly or indirectly involved in the cannabis industry. Watch the hearing here:

Passing SAFE Banking "does not diminish the importance or focus we have on the social justice and social equity issues" - Roz McCarthy of Minorities 4 Medical Ma*****na on how and why is needed for the cannabis industry while not forgetting equity issues within it.
"I think we should have access to banks...that are actually working for your business and sometimes develop further relationships with them." would rectify this–it would eliminate the risks of becoming involved with the cannabis industry from a federal level.
The longer we wait to pass bills like , the more minority and women-owned cannabis businesses will suffer. so we are another step closer to a more equitable industry.
"Now we have these retailers that are sitting with large sums of cash" - Gia Moron, President of Women Grow this is something we need to pass now so cannabis stores and their employees are safe from violent crimes.
"I hope we are not talking about SAFE Banking in 5 to 10 years" - Courtney Davis of Ma*****na Matters. Courtney is right, is an issue of the past that needs to be passed now so we can look forward to more cannabis reform.
Many banks shut out businesses directly or indirectly involved in the cannabis industry, leaving them to operate cash-only.
this leaves them vulnerable to crime?
Last month, President Joe Biden took a step forward in cannabis. Now we must keep that momentum growing and push for further reform.
“Access to the banking system is essential to keeping our communities safe and ensuring full participation in the economy. We can’t continue to ignore this industry and the thousands of workers and communities it affects” – U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown on why needs to pass.
that many cannabis equity license holders are further victimized by predatory lenders and investors on top of being more likely to be barred from basic services?
Even an incremental step is a positive – and monumental – step. For minority and women entrepreneurs, allows their operations to move forward and provides more opportunity to access the financial tools needed to do so.
Without , minority and women entrepreneurs will struggle to operate successfully against larger corporations.
As the 117th Congress enters its final months, the reality is there are not the 60 votes needed in the Senate to pass a broader reform package before the end of the year, despite broad public support.

Without , reform advocates could be left completely empty-handed if support shifts in the next Congress.
: If we do not pass , the possibility of not having ANY reform for 2 or more years increases.
Does do enough?
