Write Away

The work that Write Away does would not be possible without our incredible staff and volunteers. Today, we would like to take the time to acknowledge volunteer Evan Chartock (he/they) for their incredible work with Write Away thus far! Evan is a junior at Ursinus College in Collegeville, Pennsylvania.

Last October, Evan was looking for a virtual community service opportunity that matched their love of writing, and Write Away was the perfect fit. Evan has since taken on a large role in creating social media posts, as well as restructuring the Write Away Mentorship Curriculum for a classroom setting. They are incredibly thankful to work for a nonprofit with such a clear and important mission in today’s digital age.

At Ursinus, Evan is a double major in Media and Communication Studies & Theater, with a minor in Legal Studies. They work as a Writing Fellow in the Center for Writing and Speaking, and as a Production Technical Assistant in the Kaleidoscope Scene Shop. Evan is a co-President of UC Hillel, the Vice President of Breakaway Student Productions, and the Treasurer and New Member Educator for the Alpha Delta Phi Society - Ursinian Affiliate.

This is why Write Away is committed to increasing digital literacy skills and closing digital divides. As the year comes to a close, we can reflect on some of the special moments mentors and mentees shared. Write Away wishes a Happy Hanukkah to all those who celebrate! Hanukkah, or Chanukah, is a festival of lights, commemorating the miracle of a temple’s oil supply lasting eight days instead of one. This holiday is all about celebrating hope and perseverance. As the Chanukkiah, or Menorah, is lit each night, let its warmth and coziness inspire you to remain hopeful throughout all of your life’s endeavors. 🕎🕯️🌟

As Native American and Alaska Native Heritage Month comes to a close, Write Away is once again proud to honor and uplift the voices of some prominent Indigenous writers. Janet Campbell Hale; Vine Deloria, Jr.; and Velma Wallis have all enlightened us through their writings, primarily dealing with Indigenous experiences.
