Recently admitted to the Masterā€™s in International Security program at George Mason University, he continues his advocacy at the Mercatus Center Academic & Student Programs.

As a co-author of ā€˜DespuĆ©s del Socialismo, Libertadā€™ , Oswaldo embodies resilience and dedication in advancing the philosophy of liberty. Weā€™re excited to have him share his insights at the summit.

Introducing Michael 'Mike' HernĆ”ndez , our next participant at the Future of Tech and Liberty Summit! With dual Masterā€™s degrees in Public Policy and Divinity from the University of Chicago, and a background in Political Science, Economics, and Urban Studies from the University of Connecticut, Mikeā€™s expertise spans urban policy and the intersection of religion in American public life. A former Student Body President and active in political campaigns and housing studies, Mike also loves photography, running, and family time on Long Island Sound.

Following graduate school, he plans to attend law school and pursue a career in public service in his hometown of Stamford, Connecticut.We are thrilled to present Michael 'Mike' HernĆ”ndez at the Future of Tech and Liberty Summit! Mike is a Masterā€™s of Public Policy and Master's of Divinity candidate at the University of Chicago, focusing on urban policy and the role of religion in public life. A UConn graduate with degrees in Political Science and Economics, Mikeā€™s campus leadership included roles as Student Body President and Vice-President of the Connecticut Young Democrats. His off-campus work on political campaigns, the U.S. Census, and housing affordability studies highlights his dedication to civic engagement.

When not immersed in policy, Mike enjoys photography, running, and time with family on Long Island Sound. After graduate school, he plans to attend law school and serve his hometown of Stamford, Connecticut.

Set in a vibrant setting, the event featured a thought-provoking lecture on the past and future of liberalism and liberal democracies, delivered by SFL Portugal alumni Pedro Schuller and JoĆ£o Silva, with Duarte Alves as the moderator. Ricardo Rossi brings a powerful blend of academic rigor and real-world experience, diving deep into the philosophy of social sciences with a sharp focus on political-economic reasoning. With a stellar academic journey through the London School of Economics, the Higher School of Economics in Moscow, and a masterā€™s in Bitcoin and blockchain technologies, Riccardo is no stranger to cutting-edge ideas.

His career has spanned both the public and private sectors, from strategic roles at the Italian Ministry of Economy and investment firms in Milan to an insightful internship at the Cato Institute in Washington, D.C., where he honed his expertise in monetary and financial alternatives.

Now on the brink of beginning his Ph.D. in International Economics at Brandeis University, Riccardo balances his intellectual pursuits with a passion for language learning, cultural exploration, and the thrill of motorsports.

Metolo Foyet is a human geographer and computational social scientist with a diverse range of interests.

She holds a Bachelorā€™s degree in Politics and International Relations, a Masterā€™s degree in Conflict, Peace, and Security, and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Geography at the University of Florida.

Metoloā€™s research focuses on the digital geography of indigenous resistance, exploring governance and human rights in conservation through innovative methodological approaches like netnography and in-depth interviews.

Her work examines the intricate connections between institutions, social media, wildlife activism, and conservation movements in Southern Africa, particularly from the perspectives of non-state rural actors.

With over a decade of experience in rural development, social justice, and community outreach, Metolo has also worked across various sectors, including public affairs, cybersecurity, and global diplomacy, contributing her expertise to organizations such as the World Bank, UN agencies, and the World Economic Forum.

Jonathan Hofer is a Policy Research Associate at the Independent Institute, with a B.A. in Political Science from the University of California, Berkeley.

He is a prolific writer on both California and national public policy issues, with a particular focus on privacy policies, local surveillance, and the impact of emerging technologies on civil liberties.

Jonathan is the author of significant works such as The Pitfalls of Law Enforcement License Plate Readers in California and Safeguards to Protect the Public and Automated License Plate Readers: A Study in Failure.

His articles have been featured in respected publications including The Hill, CPO Magazine, Towards Data Science, Human Events, Real Clear Education, California Globe, Orange County Register, and The Daily Californian.

When Nana Kwadwo Dwamena looked at Ghanaā€™s political landscape, he saw a system stuck in its ways, with the younger generation clinging to old political norms. But university life opened his eyes to new ideas. A Students For Liberty pamphlet sparked his curiosity, leading him to join the Local Coordinator Program, where he learned the true value of capitalism over cronyism.

Today, Nathaniel is at the forefront of change, leading the charge at YAFO Institute, a think tank dedicated to promoting libertarian ideas and free enterprise. His efforts were recently recognized when he won the 2024 Think Tank Shark Tank Competition at the Africa Liberty Forum, a testament to his vision for a freer, more prosperous Ghana.

Al, Big Data Mining, Facial Recognition, Virtual Currencies, and Social Media, all make our lives more convenient but also pose the potential for endangering or curbing our freedoms.

Congressional hearings demonstrated that legislators largely lack knowledge of the subject matter and are absolved from the long-term consequences of these decisions.

Meanwhile, Students For Liberty has amongst its alumni leaders in this field, on the industry, policy, and advocacy side.

It is thus imperative that these forces converge to draft a better path for technological advancement both in the socio-economic and legislative dimensions.

We want you to join us in Pittsburgh between 24-25th of August for the first AFL Future of Tech and Liberty Summit.

Over two days, you will contribute to an impact- oriented conversation to provide and receive insight from leaders in complementary fields.

To ensure you can join us, we are going to cover your travel and lodging expenses, plus, we will provide catering at the event.

The liberty movement has suffered a tremendous loss with the news that David Boaz passed away. His dedication to freedom was unwavering, marked by his influential books and countless articles.

As a founding advisory board member of , Davidā€™s support was crucial from the beginning by providing invaluable guidance.

Davidā€™s legacy is one of relentless commitment to liberty and mentoring young libertarians. He was a headline speaker at SFLā€™s first conference in 2008 and chose LibertyCon 2024 for his last public appearance. His words and actions inspired thousands, urging us to continue the fight for a freer, more just world. David Boaz will be deeply missed.

In Georgia, hundreds of thousands have risen against the authoritarian, pro-Russian regime of Georgian Dream, driven by the influence of oligarch Bidzina Ivanishvili. Our SFL alum Liza Katsiashvili shares that when the government tried to intimidate them, the people of Georgia responded with the largest protest in the nationā€™s history. They chose courage over fear, fighting for Georgiaā€™s place in the free world.

Marcin Branowski as Alumni Programs Director.

Marcin Branowski is a Students For Liberty alum who is a non-profit management specialist, campaign strategist, and policy analyst. For nearly a decade, he has been working in various policy and advocacy areas, from free-market environmentalism, through poverty alleviation, to housing.

Whether professional or personal, AFL strives to give our alumni the tools to organize and participate in alumni-oriented activities and achieve desired impact while having a good time.

A multitude of projects and systems like that are in the pipeline and will soon serve our alumni like never before.

Journalism for Liberty Training 3.0! šŸ“šŸ—½

It is our pleasure to announce our upcoming two-day workshop for shortlisted journalists, themed "Promoting a Free, Prosperous Society Through Pro-freedom Reporting." The workshop will equip the shortlisted journalists with the knowledge to advocate for liberty and prosperity through their reporting.

Taking place in Abuja FCT on the 17th and 18th of this month, we are honored to have two esteemed facilitators whose works are of investigation and pro-freedom! Ibrahim Adeyemi, Deputy Investigations Editor, HumAngle and Ope Adetayo, Nigerian Correspondent, Reuters.

The duo will provide invaluable insights into the principles of pro-freedom reporting, the challenges journalists face in restrictive environments, and practical strategies for promoting liberty and prosperity through media. We will be having Anna Suberu, Alumni Engagement Associate, Students For Liberty who will also provide a unique and powerful perspective on liberty in the discourse!

Brazil is currently experiencing a natural disaster unlike anything seen in decades.

Amidst this tragedy, the volunteers, coordinators, and staff of Students For Liberty have emerged as pillars of hope and resilience. For more than a decade, these individuals in Rio Grande do Sul have been at the forefront of the fight for freedom in Brazil and beyond. Today, as their communities struggle to recover from the disaster, their unwavering spirit shines brighter than ever.

One example is Gustavo Fernandes , an alumnus who is leading a team of volunteers into the heart of the devastation.

Also, Bruna Tomasi and Ornella Di Lorenzo , a local coordinator and an alum, are mobilizing essential supplies to help those in need.

Adriana Schumacher , an SFL staffer, is also doing her part to help those affected by the disaster. Adriana and her team of volunteers are working to provide hot meals to those who are now living in temporary shelters.

In addition to providing vital services for those who have been affected, our alumni and staff are working nonstop to rescue people who are stranded by floodwaters.
