Rosary Shrine of Saint Jude
The Rosary Shrine of Saint Jude is the center of devotion to Saint Jude in the nation’s capital.
Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thine intercession was left unaided.
Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins, my mother; to thee do I come, before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy hear and answer me.
Amen.
O God, who led Saint Martin de Porres by the path of humility to heavenly glory, grant that we may so follow his radiant example in this life as to merit to be exalted with him in heaven. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever. AMEN.
St. Martin de Porres, pray for us!
Today is the Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed (All Souls Day).
Today we are reminded that this is not the final destination on our journey. We are reminded that souls of the faithful departed need our prayers.
The Catechism of the Catholic Church says, “Each man receives his eternal retribution in his immortal soul at the very moment of his death, in a particular judgment that refers his life to Christ: either entrance into the blessedness of heaven—through a purification or immediately, or immediate and everlasting damnation.” This purification refers to purgatory, where we are cleansed for the final time of any attachment to sin our souls may have. We cannot get ourselves out of purgatory. The Church on earth prays for the Church in purgatory so that all those souls may come into the joy of heaven.

Happy Solemnity of All Saints!
In this month of November the Church celebrates all those courageous men and women who have gone before us in this life and have come to their eternal reward. That reward is living in the presence of God in heaven. We know many like St. Augustine, Pope St. John Paul II, and St. Teresa of Calcutta. But there are also many other saints in heaven that we may never know on this side of eternity. But why do we celebrate this day? Is it to celebrate the saints who do not get to have their own special feast day celebrated throughout the year?
The saints give us a sign of hope for the joy that awaits us in heaven. As St. Paul says they have run the race and kept the faith. We can see this at the end of the life of St. Thomas Aquinas. Jesus appeared to him and said, “Well have you written of me Thomas, what would you have in return?” St. Thomas replied, “Nothing but You Lord.” Then the heavens were opened to St. Thomas, and putting down his pen saying, “I can write no more. All I have written appears to be as so much straw after the things that have been revealed to me.” The joy that the saints are experiencing in heaven is unmatched by anything we can experience here on earth. Nothing can compare to the joy we will have in heaven. We can live with the hope that one day, when we come face-to-face with our maker, He may say to us, “Well done, good and faithful servant, come enter into your master’s joy.”
All Saints Day reminds us of the mission we have here on earth. To become saints. We have a natural desire to be with God for eternity, and the saints who are already in heaven give us hope that we too can be with our Father.

O glorious Apostle, Saint Jude Thaddeus, true relative of Jesus and Mary, I salute you through the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus! Through this Heart, I praise and thank God for the graces He has bestowed upon you. Humbly prostrate before you, I implore you through this Heart to look down upon me with compassion. Oh, despise not my poor prayers; let not my trust be confounded! To you God has granted the privilege of aiding mankind in the most desperate cases. Oh, come to my aid, that I may praise the mercies of God! All my life, I will be grateful to you and will be your faithful client until I can thank you in Heaven. Amen.

O God, who through your Spirit raised up Saint Teresa of Jesus to show the Church the way to seek perfection, grant that we may always be nourished by the food of her heavenly teaching and fired with longing for true holiness. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever. AMEN.
Memorare to Saint Joseph
Remember, O most chaste spouse of the Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who implored your help and sought your intercession were left unassisted. Full of confidence in your power I fly unto you and beg your protection. Despise not O Guardian of the Redeemer my humble supplication, but in your bounty, hear and answer me. Amen.
Happy Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary!
Pour forth, we beseech you, O Lord, your grace into our hearts, that we, to whom the Incarnation of Christ you Son was made known by the message of an Angel, may, through the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, by his Passion and Cross be brought to the glory of his Resurrection. Who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever. AMEN.
Whatever cross you’re carrying, the weight of it can, at times, seem impossibly heavy. So, what can you do? We have the invitation, the opportunity, to turn for help to Our Lord, Our Blessed Mother and our heavenly intercessors, the Saints. Of all the Saints we can rely on, Our Lord has designated one in particular for times when all hope is despaired of: Saint Jude.
Beginning on October 20 and concluding on October 28, the Feast of Saint Jude, the Dominican Friars at The Rosary Shrine of Saint Jude will offer a special Novena of Masses in honor of Saint Jude Thaddeus.
Happy Feast of St. Francis of Assisi!
O God, by whose gift Saint Francis was conformed to Christ in poverty and humility, grant that, by walking in Francis' footsteps, we may follow your Son, and, through joyful charity, come to be united with you. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever. AMEN.
Happy Memorial of the Holy Guardian Angels!
O God, who in your unfathomable providence are pleased to send your holy Angels to guard us, hear our supplication as we cry to you, that we may always be defended by their protection and rejoice eternally in their company. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever. AMEN.
The month of October is dedicated to the Most Holy Rosary!
My first exposure to the rosary came from my father’s love for it, God rest his soul. I remember him saying once, “I wish I could take all the rosaries off of those rear view mirrors and tell people to pray them!” Those dangling rosaries are beautiful signs of personal piety, but think about what that rosary, which is the prayer of the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, could do to those long stretches of stop-and-go traffic. Amid the hustle and frustration of our fellow commuters, we might actually begin to find the commute one of the most peaceful times of the day. I remember how it took no time at all for me to begin looking forward to those rosaries prayed in my daily commute. Try it this month and it will change your prayer life!
