This Thursday, July 18 at 7:30pm at Franklin Park, join us for a special evening – A Night with Prince in the Park. Grammy-nominated singer Edward “Junie” Henderson will serenage the crowd, performing popular Prince hits.

Today is worth celebrating. Juneteenth is about more than the day enslaved African Americans in Texas finally gained freedom. We also reflect on the achievements and history of resilience that affords us so many freedoms we sometimes take for granted.

We remember activist Opal Lee and her inspiring walking journey from Dallas Fort Worth to D.C. in 2016 in effort to make Juneteenth a national holiday. Her dedication mirrors the spirit of the fighters in the “Fighters for Freedom: William H. Johnson Picturing Justice” exhibit at the Smithsonian American Art Museum and the Renwick Gallery

Looking for something meaningful to do today? Visit the American Art Museum and immerse yourself in the “Fighters for Freedom” tribute to African American activists, scientists, teachers, performers, and global peace leaders.
