Happiest New Year from NOVA BOSSA & LAD | Latin American Design Week!
From bringing to you limited-edition handcrafted products by dozens of independent brands from Latin America and the Caribbean, to collaborating on festivals and events with museums, embassies and corporate partners, 2023 was a vibrant year of education, connections and great design. Most notably, we created and hosted LAD | Latin American Design Week, which brought 10 international designers and 35 brands to Washington, DC, for the very first time for a series of collection visits, design talks, receptions, a book launch and a Latin American Design Show.
As the year comes to a close, I would like to personally thank you for loyalty and support. NOVA BOSSA would not have the impact that it does in our community and throughout the Americas without you, our customer.
In a world increasingly lacking human connection, where everything is fast and fleeting, one thing will always remain true: the slow process of making craft is not only healing but it has a transformative power. And in these times of uncertainty, it is more critical than ever to keep supporting independent designers and artisans who are imagining and shaping a more equitable and sustainable future.
2024 will bring new beginnings for NOVA BOSSA, and I look forward to sharing the news with you soon. Until then, I wish you and your loves ones a very special New Year and a 2024 filled with prosperity, beauty and, most importantly, connection.
Sincerely,
Carolina Furukrona

Robert Young will be a featured speaker of the LAD | Book Launch, Design Talk & Designers Reception to be held at one of Northwest DC's most impressive modern homes on Friday, October 13th, from 6:30-9:30 pm (the address will be emailed to ticket holders a few days before the event).
Iconic pieces from The Cloth will be available for sale at the LAD | Opening Party & Design Awards on October 14th from 5-9 pm and at the LAD | Latin American Design Show on October 15th from 11 am-7 pm.
Robert Young founded The Cloth, a Caribbean fashion brand grounded in folk, revolution, restoration and integration, in 1986 in Trinidad & Tobago. Since then, The Cloth has become the most influential fashion brand from the Caribbean, pioneering the use of appliqués in designs that honor Caribbean aesthetics and craftsmanship. Many of Robert's creations feature a patchwork appliqué that is found in all cultures of Trinidad & Tobago, namely indigenous, African and Indian, building a contemporary way to make clothes using a centuries-old craft technique. Son of a former trade unionist, Robert is very much an activist who uses his designs to draw attention to issues and tell social and political stories. "I see myself as an artist working with clothing, not a fashion designer."
