Founded in 1927, Sheridan is an independent K-8 school that seeks to nurture and challenge all learners.
Congratulations to our volleyball players and coaches for a great first game yesterday. What a fantastic start to the season for Sheridan’s very first volleyball team! 🦉🏐💙

Here’s to a sweet new school year! Sheridan families, see you on Tuesday at our annual ice cream social.🍦☀️🦉
Sheridan faculty and staff have been working hard this week to get everything ready for the new school year! 📚📓🚸
Thank you to Marnie Weinstein of and Maria Zimmitti of for speaking to our faculty and staff earlier today! We learned about current statistics on neurodivergence in children and talked through specific strategies for creating neurodivergent-affirming classrooms.
We are grateful that you were both able to share your wisdom and resources with us so that we can continue to provide each and every one of our students with the support they need to thrive at Sheridan and beyond.
This is going to be a spectacular year! ❤️🦉💙
It is the last week of summer before the new school year here at Sheridan, and we want to say thank you to all of our CASA staff, counselors, and CITs who made this summer so amazing. This is also a reminder to vote for CASA as best DC day camp before the month ends! The link to vote is in our bio. ❤️🤸♀️🛝🎨☀️
We are thrilled to have all our faculty and staff back at Sheridan! On Friday we traveled to our beautiful Mountain Campus, where we learned about permaculture and sustainability, played team building games, challenged ourselves at the giant swing, and sang the Mountain Campus song. We are so lucky to have this unique space for experiential learning and we’re grateful that our faculty and staff were able to spend time at this magical place.
We are so excited to welcome our new Faculty and Staff to Sheridan! Today at orientation, our new staff members were able to learn about procedures and get to know their way around. Tomorrow, all Faculty and Staff return to Sheridan to begin planning and setting up for the new year! ❤️🦉

We want to give a huge thank you to our incredible facilities team and amazing kitchen staff at Sheridan!!!! We appreciate you so much. ❤️❤️❤️
We hope everyone has a wonderful summer break! Here is a throwback from last week when students around the building were able to present some of their final work for the year! Seventh graders presented their intricate and unique science fair projects, third graders hd a publishing party for their interdisciplinary projects about immigration in DC, and second graders explained their research on different aspects of the US government.
Congratulations to Sheridan’s graduating eighth grade class!
At our lovely Thursday dinner for graduates and their families, every graduate was able to hear from Ms. Martin about their unique strengths, talents, and how much our staff and faculty have seen them grow during their time at Sheridan. This class is full of smart, capable individuals ready to take on the challenges of life ahead!
At the conclusion of our Friday morning ceremony, each graduate walked out of Sheridan for the last time with their Kindergarten buddy.
We are so proud of all of our rising high schoolers. We can’t wait to see everything that these exceptional students accomplish in their bright futures. ❤️
We had a lovely time celebrating our parent volunteers this morning. Thank you for all that you do! ❤️🦉💙
Our eighth graders were able to show off their excellent debate, research, and teamwork skills at the 43rd annual Jennifer Paul Debates. It was clear that they all prepared their arguments well for their topics, which included healthcare deserts, college affordability, and AI use in schools. Mr. Hill and Ms. Hughes did a wonderful job working with the students! Also, a big thank you to our parent judges who gave feedback and chose the winners.
Created in 1983, the Jennifer B. Paul Memorial Debates were created by the class of 1974 to honor their classmate, Jennifer Paul, who passed away in college. Her class was particularly fond of political arguments and the debates were seen as a fitting tribute.
We had such a joyous time at Family Pride Night on Friday! There was trivia, fun arts and crafts, glittery face painting, and amazing karaoke from kids, parents, and faculty alike! 🌈❤️🦉
Moonlight on the Mountain last month was a great success!! Thank you to those who came, volunteered, and donated to support Mountain Campus and experiential learning, and a special thank you to the committee who made the event happen. The community truly came together to create such a fun and special night. We can’t wait for more amazing experiential learning next year! To view the full photo album, be sure to check out News and Notes.
From tug of war to sack races to relays and more, we had a BLAST at Field Day this year!! To round out the activities, eighth graders competed in the exciting (but messy) pudding drop contest. After the events, we were able to enjoy a community cookout thanks to our amazing and talented kitchen staff. Thank you everyone who helped make this event happen! Go Sheridan Owls! 👟☀️🦉
Thank you to the Sheridan chapter of Families4Families for an amazing last donation event of the school year! This year, Sheridan families delivered 8,500 meals and donated nearly $750 in non-food items to our partner school, Jubilee Jumpstart. Our Kindergartners made cards as well to send along with all of our items. Families4Families looks forward to continue donation drives in the fall. ❤️🦉
Grades 1,4, and 5 have had some awesome adventures out at Mountain Campus! 🏕️ Some favorite activities have been trying the climbing wall, catching creatures in the Mountain Campus pond, visiting Shenandoah National Park, singing songs at the camp fire, soaring down the zip line, helping with the garden, playing in the mud kitchen, and having fun doing team building games. 🐛🔥🌿☀️
We have had such a wonderful time celebrating our OUTSTANDING teachers this week!! ❤️❤️ We are forever grateful for your wisdom, creativity, dedication, and kindness. Thank you as well to the Parents Association for making it such a special week and for all you do around the school!
Thank you to everyone who came out to our annual Spring Fling this past Sunday! Despite the rainy weather, we had a great time painting faces, making bird feeders, sliding down the inflatable slide, eating sweet treats, and playing Musical Sqaures. Thank you as well to every student, parent, and community member who helped plan and run this wonderful community celebration. 💛🌸🌿🦉
Please join us this Sunday, May 5 from 1-3 pm for our annual Spring Fling, a free event sponsored by the Sheridan Parents Association. We will have lots of fun activities, games for the whole family, and everyone’s favorite “Musical Squares”!
Spring Fling is parent-led and parent-staffed, so we rely on volunteers from every grade to make it a success for the kids. Parents, please check News and Notes for the link to sign up for volunteer shifts.
See you there!! 🌸🌿🦋💛
On Friday, eighth graders performed self written monologues based on books they read in class. Performers were spread around the school, frozen in place similar to a wax museum. When audience members traveled into different rooms they could “unfreeze” the performers by saying a unique phrase, and performers would begin their monologues. We’re so proud of our eighth graders for their outstanding work!
