We support every person’s right to self-determination over their own bodies and reproductive lives. We also support access to s*x education, family planning and contraception; affordable child care and health care; adoption services; adequate reproductive and general health care services and adequate insurance coverage for these services.

Based on our religious beliefs and our commitment to reproductive justice, we champion a range of issues that impact families, family formation and the health and well being of communities. This means that our work deeply recognizes the ways in which reproductive justice links to LGBTQ issues, immigration, environmental, racial and economic justice.

Spiritual beliefs can play a significant role in reproductive health decisions. By providing resources and opportunities for dialogue, we hope to help individuals and communities navigate these issues with compassion and understanding.

We offer a collection of blessings and prayers, curated from a wide variety of pro-choice spiritual leaders, for patients and their family members seeking compassionate spiritual anchoring during the clinical stage of an abortion journey.

RCRC Board Member Rabbi Josh Fixler joined Rachel Laser of Americans United for Separation of Church and State to discuss challenging abortions bans on the grounds of religious freedom to protect our reproductive freedom and our democracy. Rabbi Fixler, who first served RCRC as a staff member in his early 20s, talked about the role that Jewish leaders and communities have had historically in the fight for reproductive freedom and how that work must continue, especially in places like Houston, Texas where he currently serves as the Associate Rabbi at Congregation Emanu El.

"Today’s decision is not a victory for pregnant patients in Idaho. It is a delay." - Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson

While we are relieved the Supreme Court ruled that hospitals must provide abortion to patients if it is indicated as the necessary and appropriate care in an emergency, we know even this is not a long- term guarantee. We know religious and political extremists across the country will continue to assault access to reproductive care, IVF, and abortion.

This week's momentary relief on EMTALA reminds us to remain vigilant, to keep having conversations about reproductive freedom, and to share our stories about . We are people of faith, and we demand access to reproductive care.

Throughout our 50+ year history, we have done our best to meet the spiritual needs of the moment and the reproductive freedom movement. As we move forward, we are now focused on three priorities:

🙏Offering spiritual people a sacred space of support, comfort, care, and education as they make reproductive decisions

📚Providing care professionals and spiritual leaders tools and training to help them counsel people during their reproductive journey; and

📢Amplifying young activists and leaders as they work to win religious and reproductive freedom.

Two years ago today, the Dobbs decision reshaped the landscape of reproductive rights in America. While the challenges have been immense, so too has our resolve. We've marched, advocated, and supported each other, fighting tirelessly for access to safe and legal abortion and comprehensive healthcare.

Today, we recommit to protecting these fundamental rights and ensuring that every person has the freedom to make decisions about their own body.

"The people of Texas are informed that in accordance with a Proclamation from the Executive of the United States, all slaves are free. This involves an absolute equality of rights and rights of property between former masters and slaves."

- Gordon Granger, Union General, June 19, 1865

Nearly two years after President Abraham Lincoln emancipated enslaved Africans in America, Union troops arrived in Galveston Bay, Texas with news of freedom. More than 250,000 African Americans embraced freedom by executive decree in what became known as Juneteenth or Freedom Day. With the principles of self-determination, citizenship, and democracy magnifying their hopes and dreams, those Texans held fast to the promise of true liberty for all.

RCRC is unique in the reproductive health, rights and justice movements because it draws on the moral power of diverse religious communities.

We are attuned to the important role of our diverse faiths in personal and public life. We believe the decisions to become a parent, when, and under what circumstances are deeply personal. These matters are best left to an individual to discern in consultation with family, faith and others one may bring into the conversation.

We reject the shame and stigma that religious conservatives have long attached to s*x, s*xuality and reproduction. We challenge these views which have polarized the debate on reproductive issues, and offer spiritual support and solace as families and individuals make their reproductive choices.
