I and People's Association of Justice Advocates are issuing the following statement on the arrest video and calling for Miami Dade Police Officers involved to be highly disciplined and potentially fired following the body worn camera footage being released:
“I watched in both shock and dismay as many people did across the country in the Sunday arrest of Miami Dolphins football player Tyreek Hill by Miami Dade Police Department officers who acted in my opinion with levels of unnecessary misconduct all for what appears to be a speeding ticket at worst. I agree with Tyreek when he says that if it hadn’t of been him there may have been a different result and I also agree with him when he says that this moment should be used as a catalyst for change not chaos. Change does not mean no justice, but it does mean working to bring community and law enforcement together consistently to shut down narratives and fears on both sides ensuring safer communities. We must continue that work of building bridges however let me be very clear that the officers involved in this arrest deserve to be disciplined at higher levels than just a paid vacation and in my opinion, they potentially deserve to be fired from the Miami Dade Police Department for their actions. There is no place for bad apples not in our communities or within our public service institutions. We must remove bad apples to ensure that the basic principles and mission of the bunch does not go bad. The People’s Association of Justice Advocates supports Tyreek and his Attorney Julius Collins as they pursue justice”

I have issued the following statement on San Diego City Council President Sean Elo Rivera dropping his efforts to remove virtual public comment from city council meetings. I was proud to have led opposition to this issue and our coalition have successfully made the case to keep virtual public comment at council meetings 👇
“I am relieved to hear that the Council President has dropped his efforts to remove virtual public comments from council meetings. As I stated to the City Council President both privately and publicly removing virtual public comment would carry unintended consequences of removing the voices of hundreds of San Diego residents who utilize this tool in between grocery shopping, work and picking their kids up from school to share their concerns about issues being taken up at council. We should be focused on expanding civic engagement at public meetings, not removing access. Although I understand there are some who are using this tool to spew hate and inappropriate comments it does not outweigh the large majority of San Diegans who use this tool to spread their messages and concerns about issues the council is taking up. I look forward to working with the Council President and the city council to establish a code of conduct for public comment at city council to address some of the unnecessary comments that disrupt these meetings”.
Shane Harris President of the People's Association of Justice Advocates announces policy proposal on human trafficking in San Diego
I am wholeheartedly against the San Diego City Council President’s intent to remove virtual public comment options from all city council meetings. This morning dozens of taxpayers, citizens and leaders joined me for a press conference at city hall to announce opposition to this measure.
This kind of policy is a breach of public trust, an attempt to silence democracy and is a threat to civic engagement.
The rules committee which will hold a hearing later today on his proposal should absolutely say NO to this idea. My office People's Association of Justice Advocates will look into suing the city on behalf of disabled residents who can’t attend these meetings if the rules committee pushes this through later today.
President of the People's Association of Justice Advocates Shane Harris speaks in San Diego's Middletown neighborhood alongside homeless advocates and residents to announce opposition to San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria's proposal to turn the Kettner & Vine Warehouse into a mega homeless shelter
has issued the following statement on the shooting at former President Trump’s Rally today:
“Today without knowing all the details there was what appears to be an assassination attempt on former President Trump and there was clearly political violence at his campaign rally. This is unacceptable, and I pray for President Trump’s full and speedy recovery. I also pray for the families of innocent bystanders who were killed and injured. In 2020 I introduced an initiative called the “Civility Pledge” where I urged both Democrats and Republicans to sign a public pledge committing to stand against political violence and commit to being civil even with political differences, they may have against each other. Some committed to signing it on both sides but some hesitated to commit to this pledge. I plan to reintroduce this effort once again on Monday. I don’t care what your policy differences are we must put an end to political violence and stand up as Americans to have the basic dignity and respect to disagree without being disagreeable. Enough is enough”.
WATCH LIVE: PAJA PRESIDENT SHANE HARRIS ADDRESSES SAN DIEGO CITY COUNCIL LAND USE & HOUSING COMMITTEE ON THE PROPOSED 25-YEAR WORLDBEAT CULTURAL CENTER LEASE
PAJA President Shane Harris has proposed a new policy in the City of National City. The new policy proposal requests that the Mayor and Council of National City pass a resolution to support new state legislation in CA SB 1414 which makes it a felony to buy a child for s*x in CA. Harris has written the policy and national city leaders are going to bring it forth in August at his request. National City has been deemed a hotbed for human trafficking which is why Harris is targeting the city to be the first in the state to pass a resolution to support this legislation which is being authored in Sacramento by
