Sharing a meal is one of the best ways to unite people. 🥣 On Sunday, September 29th, the Conway, AR community came together for "Soup for Syria," raising over $17,000 for SETF's humanitarian efforts supporting displaced Syrian children at The Wisdom House Kindergarten and the Rukban camp.

About 130 attendees enjoyed tasting 14 soups made by local volunteers, purchased handmade clothing from women in war-torn Syria, and wrote heartfelt Letters of Hope for Syria to children in Syria and Ukraine.

A huge thank you to our event sponsors: Conway Morning Rotary Club , UCA Center for Global Learning & Engagement
, Rotaract International Club, Bears for Global Awareness, and the Syria Ukraine Network 💙

Special thanks to Congressman French Hill for addressing the importance of community advocacy and support. He highlighted Arkansas’ long-standing commitment to Syrian civilians and our collective role in the global push for peace. Other speakers included Mouaz Moustafa (SETF Executive Director), Jerry Adams (SETF Board President), Dr. Riva Brown, and Dr. Kevin Rowell, all sharing their dedication to bringing aid and hope to Syria.

SETF team members Natalie and Sullivan visited Lakeside School District, speaking with over 100 students about Syria’s revolution and the humanitarian crisis at Rukban Camp. The students, especially those from history classes, were deeply engaged—asking thoughtful questions and expressing a strong desire to start an SETF chapter and fundraise for Rukban.

One of SETF’s core missions is to raise global awareness and inspire meaningful action for Syria. We are excited to see this new wave of student-led activism take shape.

On this World Food Day, we reflect on our ongoing efforts to provide life-saving food and humanitarian assistance to the 8,000 displaced civilians in the besieged Rukban Camp, near the Jordanian-Iraqi border.

Through Operation Syrian Oasis, launched in June 2023, SETF became the first and only organization to break the eight-year blockade imposed by the Assad regime, Russia, and Iran. Our commitment remains strong—ensuring that camp residents, including 1,800 families, receive the support they need to survive and rebuild their lives.

Here’s what we’ve delivered so far:
🍅 Seeds & Farm Equipment – 6,000+ lbs of seeds, irrigation tools, and fertilizer to empower residents to grow their own food.
🥫 Food Baskets – Nourishing all 1,800 families for one month with essential food supplies.
🍼 Baby Formula & Prenatal Vitamins – 1,500 bottles of formula for 900 babies and 3,000 prenatal vitamins for 400 pregnant women.
📚 School Supplies – 16,000 textbooks to restore education for 1,200 children who’ve been deprived for years.

Despite overwhelming challenges, the people of Rukban have shown immense resilience. We are proud to stand with them and provide essential resources, making each delivery a lifeline of hope and survival.

Together, we can continue fighting hunger and restoring dignity for the people of Syria. Join us in making a difference: setf.ngo/takeaction.

A heartfelt thank you to the historic Little Rock Central High School for welcoming the SETF team back, and to for hosting us to engage with nearly 60 students. We discussed Syria’s ongoing revolution, the humanitarian crisis at Rukban Camp, and ways students can make a real impact.

The students' enthusiasm was inspiring—they’re already planning bake sales to raise funds for Rukban. Central High is proud to be the first official SETF high school chapter, led by remarkable student leaders. Their long-standing partnership has been invaluable in raising awareness and supporting our mission.

Thank you, , for connecting with us on Syria’s ongoing revolution and our humanitarian efforts at Rukban Camp. It was a pleasure speaking with students passionate about supporting Syrian families and excited to organize local food drives. Seeing young people so eager to take action is truly inspiring.

We’re especially grateful to Mr. Bill Topich and the incredible students at Pulaski Academy, who have stood by SETF for years through fundraising and awareness events. Together, we’re building hope and making a real difference.

This week, SETF team members Natalie and Sullivan kicked off school visits at LISA Academy West Middle , engaging with a lively group of around 30 sixth graders. The students were not only curious but deeply moved, asking thoughtful questions—many in disbelief that such a tragic situation in Syria is still unfolding.

In response, they eagerly joined our initiative, writing heartfelt messages to Syrian children. Their desire to become part of the change was inspiring, reflecting the spirit of peace we aim to foster.

Special thanks to Ms. Walker, who has graciously welcomed SETF into her classroom for nearly eight years! Through her dedication, generations of students have grown up with a profound sense of empathy for the Syrian people.

At SETF, our mission is to raise global awareness and empower communities to make a difference. These moments in classrooms are where change begins—encouraging the next generation to care about something greater than themselves.

On the International day of the Girl Child, we want to share one of our students stories with you.

“When we had to leave our home, my mom did everything she could to keep us safe and happy. She always said that learning is super important for our future. Even on rainy, muddy days, she would carry me to Wisdom House Kindergarten because she wanted me to go to school. At first, I was really scared and cried a lot because everything was so new. But my teacher, Khansaa, was so nice and made me feel welcome. Now, I can read and learn so many cool things! Thanks to my mom and my teacher, I can dream big and think about all the wonderful things I want to do when I grow up.”
