THANK YOU | The Airmen of Note would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Amazonas Green Jazz Festival. We were thrilled to receive the invitation to perform at this festival for the bicentennial celebration of diplomatic relations between the United States and Brazil.

At the festival, the Note performed for a very excited and welcoming audience that cheered for two encores after the main set. Rui Carvalho, the artistic director of the Amazonas Green Jazz Festival, and the festival's various producers provided a great experience for the Note. This was an extremely memorable performance for both the Note and the audience! 🇺🇸🇧🇷

200 YEARS OF FRIENDSHIP | The Airmen of Note concluded their trip to Brazil by collaborating with the Força Aérea Brasileira Orquestra Sinfônica da Força Aérea Brasileira! 🎶

Both teams spent months planning and preparing for this truly historic event. The United States and Brazil's diplomatic relationship first began in 1824. Since then, we have enjoyed 200 years of friendship, partnership, and shared values.

We all left the final performance with a deeper understanding of the ties that bind Brazil and the United States and grateful for the universal language of music.

MOTO WEEK BRASILIA | While in Brazil, the Airmen of Note performed at Capital Moto Week 2024 in the Brazilian capital. Moto Week is the largest motorcycle and rock festival in Latin America and we were happy to be invited to perform and expand our international community.

The Note was honored to represent the U.S. Embassy and Consulates and excited to meet many of our youngest fans at this family-friendly event!

BEHIND THE SCENES IN BRASILIA | The Airmen of Note and the Força Aérea Brasileira Symphony Orchestra began their collaboration last week. The Note was embraced with open arms of friendship as soon as they arrived at Base Aérea de Brasília!

Throughout the week, we forged an even greater sense of community, partnership, and musical collaboration. A segment of our rehearsal of Duke Ellington's "Take The A Train" was even broadcast live on the Brazilian television network TV Globo!

We hope that you enjoy these photos from our joint rehearsals in Brasília!

AMAZONAS GREEN JAZZ FEST RECAP | The Airmen of Note had an incredible time this week at the Amazonas Green Jazz Festival in Manaus, Brazil. The Teatro Amazonas is a beautiful opera house and we were very excited to have our first performance of the bicentennial celebration at this historic venue. Our two countries, United States and Brazil, have had 200 years of diplomatic relations.

This night was so special, our audience chanted for two encore performances! The Note happily delivered both encores. We made so many lasting memories with our audience in Manaus that will never be forgotten.

KING PORTER STOMP | The Airmen of Note performed Jelly Roll Morton's composition King Porter Stomp at The Library of Congress. Jelly Roll Morton was born in New Orleans, LA and is one of the greatest composers and piano players of jazz music. Morton coined this tune "the outstanding favorite of every great hot band throughout the world." King Porter Stomp was written in 1905, first recorded over 100 years ago, and is the first "stomp" in the history of jazz. 🎶

INTERNATIONAL EDUCATION | Amidst our busy performance schedule at the Toronto Jazz Festival this weekend, the Airmen of Note made time for educating the next generation of jazz musicians. Highly motivated students in the Cawthra Park Performing Arts School Co-Lab jazz ensemble, located in Mississauga, Ontario participated in a workshop with the Note.

The workshop took place at Toronto's historic venue The Rex Hotel Jazz & Blues Bar. These high school students had the opportunity to ask questions and play side by side next to some of the musicians in the Note. One of the pieces they have been working on this school year is Sammy Nestico’s “Who’s Sorry Now?”

CELEBRATING DIVERSITY AT NATIONAL HARBOR | This past weekend, the Airmen of Note completed our first performance of the Salute The Sunset Series at National Harbor. At this concert, we featured our 2024 Diversity Fellows. Our Diversity Fellowship program connects people from diverse backgrounds to create music with The United States Air Force Band, producing an inclusive environment, respecting cultural identities, and representing America.

This year, our three fellows, Gina Benalcázar López, David Mesquitic, and Julie Coggiola were great additions to the ‘Note. They spent the week experiencing The United States Air Force Band and Washigton, D.C. in various capacities. The fellowship concluded with the performance at National Harbor on the sunset. All three fellows premiered original music and were featured soloists with the ‘Note, and we truly enjoyed hosting them.

In case you missed it, the ‘Note will be back at National Harbor on the 4th of July at 2 p.m. and again on July 13th at 7 p.m.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, CHICK COREA | The Airmen of Note would like to celebrate the birth of jazz luminary Chick Corea. Corea is regarded as one of American music's greatest pianists and composers and was deemed a jazz master by the National Endowment for the Arts.

During our 2024 Jazz Heritage Series, guest artist David Kikoski introduced us to an arrangement of Corea's tune "Quartet No. 1." We enjoyed the arrangement so much that we included it on our Spring Tour setlist! Here is a segment of the song performed just a few weeks ago in Bozeman, Montana, featuring the Note's pianist Master Sgt. Christopher Ziemba.
