The Global Fairness Initiative (GFI) develops more equitable, sustainable approaches to economic development for the world's working poor.
Informal workers are essential to the global economy. At GFI, we devote our work to developing and advocating for common-sense fair labor practices for all informal workers.
The Inclusive Labor Dialogue at GFI focuses on creating and facilitating conversations in Tunisia and the Global South to advocate for gender inclusivity and representation in both the formal and informal sectors, utilizing local governments and civil society to foster capacity building and participation in the growth.
Our team recently visited Tunisia and have been in sessions with government officials and women in agricultural cooperatives in attempts to facilitate new opportunities and changes in labor practices.
Informal Workers are vital to the global economy and deserve to be recognized in the efforts to create fair and common-sense equitable standards for workers.
At GFI, our programs continue to target creating a dialogue amongst countries in the Global South on ways to increase and facilitate inclusivity among workers and grassroots organizations to advocate fair practices.
GFI is partnering with informal worker unions and organizations to conduct a cross-country analytical study in six countries. Here, members of the South African Domestic Service and Allied Workers Union () conduct and participate in a focus group on women's leadership in the informal economy. Participants shared their experiences in the domestic work sector, and identified opportunities and barriers related to informal work, and discussed recommendations for promoting women's leadership.
We know what community means, but how do we utilize data to support local communities, especially women, to advocate for fair labor practices and wages for all workers, especially informal workers?
This is the question that GFI has sought out to answer with the formation of “The Center '': A database that consists of a cross country study conducted in various Global South countries centered upon creating greater data transparency pertaining to the issues that are common amongst women in work in the region.
Those who are the least responsible for the effects of are globally the most impacted by its repercussions. Attacking climate change is advocating for the world’s most vulnerable communities.
It is important to recognize the signs of climate change in a global setting and the disproportionate effects that climate change has on some of the world’s most vulnerable communities.
As the New Year begins, we at Global Fairness wish all of our followers a Happy New Year! 🌏
2023 was another year filled with success as we continue to work alongside our partners across the globe to engage in humanitarian efforts to bring common-sense solutions to underrepresented and informal workers. We hope that you continue to follow us on our journey to create a more fair and just society for everyone in the new year! 🎉
At Global Fairness, we believe that securing fair and equitable wages for all workers is common-sense. Alongside our partners, we work with local communities and grassroots organizations around the world to connect informal workers with governments and top-level stakeholders to eliminate trickle-down practices and establish solutions that will allow workers to have access to better working conditions, wages, and opportunity.
Invest. In. Women.
Women in work represent 46% of the global workforce and represent over 58% of the informal workforce.
Despite these statistics, women are often overlooked in solution-based conversations regarding worker rights and safety. At GFI, we value working alongside partners and grassroots organizations that center women at the forefront of their work and seek to create solutions that will uplift and amplify their voices.
Support. Local. Markets.
At the core of the work that we do at Global Fairness is our mission to invest in local markets to seek and create solutions for informal workers, by informal workers. Too often, solutions are levied in a trickle-down system where grassroots actors and voices are not present at the table when solutions are determined.
We believe that by supporting local markets, this ensures that those populations seeking solutions are uplifted from within their own communities economically.
Support. Informal. Workers.
61% of the current global population are engaged in informal work. This means that advocating for the common-sense rights and fair treatment of informal workers and laborers is essential.
Worker rights are human rights.

Today is International Migrant's Day.
This date was chosen by the United Nations to commemorate the passing of the International Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of their Families.
At GFI, at the core of the work we do is advocacy for all workers on a global scale, uplifting decent working conditions and creating a more fair and just society for workers of all backgrounds. We recognize the importance of migrant workers, and we continue to work alongside our partners to create better working and living conditions for the often-underappreciated populations in society.
Did you know that there was a 6% decrease in youth unemployment in Mexico in 2022?
According to Statista, there was a 6.36% decrease in unemployment for job-seeking youth from ages 14-24 in Mexico from the year 2021 to 2022.
In 2015, we started a youth employment and job readiness program; Creando tu Futuro, aimed at assisting vulnerable youth in the development of key workplace and life skills in the Latin America region. The program has since provided 24,000 youth with trainings to assist them with their future career prospects.
At GFI, we invest into futures.
Children deserve the chance to be children.
In partnership Humanity United, we launched a program called Better Brick Nepal in 2014 with five pilot kilns committed to the goals of eliminating child, bonded, and forced labor and decent working conditions for all workers.
Ultimately, working across 40 Brick Kilns in Nepal, we were able to establish the "BBN Standard" which cited the ILO Conventions on child labour, and worked to take the crucial steps needed to eliminate child labor from kiln sites and send child laborers to safer alternatives.
At Global Fairness, it continues to be our mission to prioritize the rights and fair treatment of women in informal work.
Utilizing data collection from grassroots, women-led organizations, a digital platform is in development that will allow advocacy organizations to better utilize and share data, accentuating the current needs and issues of those at the grassroots level and facilitating fruitful conversations with grass-tops actors.
At GFI, we believe that investing in informal workers is advocating for human rights.
According to the International Labor Organization, 60% of the world's working population is comprised of informal workers. Additionally, 56% of informal workers are women in work.
That is why at GFI we work daily towards uplifting the voices of informal workers, especially women, to ensure that working populations of our world are treated fairly.
