The Hearts of Gold intervention has sustained many small scale local businesses that would have phazed out during the Covid pandemic.
Since June 2020, Hearts of Gold, through her child, Twezimbe Microfinance, has extended soft loans to more than 330 members. This has led to the growth and development of small-scale businesses, assisted aspiring entrepreneurs in establishing new ventures, and ultimately generated local employment opportunities and enhanced the local economy of Wairaka village and surrounding areas.
Countdown to GivingTuesday (Dec 3rd)! Join us as we unveil the impact of Hearts of Gold's transformative work, changing lives in rural Uganda since 2019. Powerful stories, real change. Stay tuned!

Dear Esteemed Hearts of Gold Support Network,

It began with a shared passion for service to humanity, their hands joining in volunteer work before their hearts followed suit. Meet Zac, a man whose quiet demeanor belies a mind brimming with innovation. For Zac, engineering is more of a calling rather than an obligation. Watch him tackle complex problems, and you'll witness a rare blend of theoretical mastery and practical ingenuity.
At Hearts of Gold, Zac's engineering impact on the kids of Wairaka village resonates far beyond his modest nature. His passion ignites curiosity, while his groundbreaking solutions push boundaries. 🌟 **A Shining Light in Jinja's Dental Care: Dr. Edward's Unwavering Commitment** 🌟
Dr. Edward Columbas Nsadha Kintu, fondly known as Dr. Eddie, is a true anchor in the Hearts of Gold's medical programs. As one of the founding members and a pioneer dentist from our 2019 medical camp, his dedication and commitment to the Hearts of Gold mission is indisputable.
I've known Eddie since 2005 as classmates during our O'level/middle school days, and our friendship has remained strong. When Hearts of Gold began organizing medical camps in 2019, I knew exactly who to call to coordinate our dental activities.
Dr. Eddie's commitment to his medical profession stood out during the recent medical camp. As the energy of some of our contracted dentists waned, Eddie's passion burned bright and stronger. He went above and beyond, continuing his work for an extra day after the official camp closure.
Even now, Dr. Eddie continues to see patients requiring additional dental care beyond what our camp initially planned to offer. His tireless efforts and genuine care for the community exemplify the true spirit of Hearts of Gold. Hearts of Gold's mission and vision thrive because of the dedication of our local partners like Dr. Eddie. 🌟🦷❤️
🌟 A Steward at the Core: Dr. Wendy's Servant Leadership🌟
The saying goes, "When you hang around the barbershop long enough, sooner or later, you'll get a haircut." This rings true for Dr. Wendy; being around her means gaining invaluable life lessons in spiritual formation, stewardship, and being an open vessel for God to manifest His works.
One profound truth became clear while observing Wendy in Wairaka village: titles are meaningless when God calls us to serve His people. All that matters is putting His people first and serving them selflessly.
Wendy's heart was set on the mission, vision, and purpose of the volunteer trip. She didn't hesitate to step up, whether it was sharing her educational expertise to upskill local teachers at Hearts of Gold School in alternative mathematics instructions or humbly accepting and taking on new domestic chores like mopping and sweeping at the volunteers' residence.
Throughout our stay, Wendy modeled true servant leadership. Her example reminds us to selflessly offer ourselves, setting aside our experience or any distinctions, to serve those in need.

🌟The True Epitome of God's Love Among His People🌟
By- Po Mulungi
Amidst our volunteer team was Jonathan, a dedicated family man who exemplified God's love by leaving behind his expectant wife to serve the people of Wairaka. Despite this immense personal sacrifice, Jonathan remained committed to answering God's call to "love one another" (John 15:17).
As our photographer, Jonathan captured amazing memories, but more importantly, he captured hearts through his selfless service. From playing joyfully with children to grueling manual labor, his complete immersion into Ugandan culture and tireless dedication to volunteer tasks—all while missing precious family time—epitomized true Christian compassion
At Hearts of Gold, we are forever grateful for Jonathan's selfless commitment to living out Christ's radical love, even amid difficulty. His spirit sparked our entire team. Above all, he left the most lasting impact on the children of Wairaka.
Jonathan's example of selflessly loving others through service will forever inspire our mission of spreading the light of God across the world. He is the truest embodiment of God's love among His people. .

**🌟 Local Volunteer Spotlight: Engineer Dominique Ouma🌟**
Hearts of Gold wouldn't be transforming and impacting local lives across Wairaka village without dedicated local heroes like Dominique. This committed engineer has been indispensable, ensuring our U.S. volunteers had a smooth arrival with all the major comforts for their stay at the Hearts of Gold campus.
Dominique embodies our vision of stakeholders leading strategic programs. I've known him since childhood through his siblings, my former schoolmates at Nuvila primary school. As a qualified civil engineer, he's designed and managed major Hearts of Gold school constructions, exceeding expectations with his passion.
Recently, Dominique played a crucial role in designing and managing the new elementary school building (still under construction), constructing the nursery/kindergarten section septic tank, and installing its indoor bathrooms. Despite his busy Kampala job schedule, he volunteered during our health camp week. Dominique's dedication to the mission and vision of Hearts of Gold epitomizes our mantra "For the people, by the people!" We're profoundly grateful for Eng. Dominique's commitment to empowering our Wairaka community from within. Thank you, sir!
🌟 **What Could a Young Adult Bring to Hearts of Gold's Volunteer Team?** 🌟
A whole lot! The Bible teaches us in 1 Timothy 4:12, "Let no man despise thy youth, but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in manner of living, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity." Ruth embodies this spirit! Though she was the youngest volunteer on the team, she never hesitated to explore opportunities to fully utilize her gifts in serving those in need.
I met Ruth at an interview panel for a youth pastor position at Chamblee UMC in Atlanta, Georgia. Ruth says she knew right away, I was the youth pastor her church youth group needed. I’m grateful to have served and worked with such incredible youth back then. Ruth was curious about Uganda and the works of Hearts of Gold in Wairaka village and pledged to travel and volunteer if there was an opportunity.
Together with the youth group at CUMC, we organized annual car wash fundraisers to support Hearts of Gold’s mission and encourage folks to learn more about Wairaka village and the people we serve. Fast forward, Ruth graduated high school in 2022 and prepared to move to Northern Georgia for college just as my youth pastor tenure at CUMC ended. I relocated my family to the DMV area for new life adventures.
Despite these changes, we've kept in touch, sharing updates about the amazing work Hearts of Gold is doing in Wairaka. And...when we planned the 2024 volunteer trip, Ruth was among the first to sign up.
I’m thrilled to have Ruth and the gifts she brings with her on our team and knowing she continues to share with her church and family her firsthand experience of the works and impact of Hearts of Gold in Wairaka village and beyond. 🌍❤️ 💛
🌟 **Can Hearts of Gold Be the Conduit for People of African Descent to Experience and Explore Their African Heritage?** 🌟
Absolutely! In our two volunteer trips to Uganda, Hearts of Gold has successfully brought four African Americans to immerse themselves in African heritage. We've delved into the history of ancient Ugandan kingdoms like Buganda and Busoga, explored their pre-colonial way of life and current livelihoods, and visited historical sites like the source of the Nile in my hometown, Jinja.
Though our African American volunteers, like A'Shantae,' may not trace their ancestry directly to Uganda, this journey was a perfect eye-opening experience, offering insights into both pre-colonial and modern Africa.
A'shantae, a fellow alumna of Western Michigan University and a member of Grace Church on the WMU campus, brought her professional nursing skills to our medical camp services in Wairaka village and beyond. Her contributions were invaluable! Thank you for representing, A'shantae! 🌍❤️
🌟 **Meet Grace: A Multi-Talented Volunteer and Future Medical Doctor** 🌟
Grace joined our volunteer team through an invitation from her best friend, Lexxe. Grace brings a wealth of talent and skills to our team. As an aspiring medical doctor currently attending medical school, she shows remarkable passion for her work and dedication to caring for people throughout our time in Uganda.
Grace’s willingness to help with any task has been invaluable. Whether arranging chairs for medical camp patients, mopping the dining hall, sweeping the village streets, catering to children, or explaining medication instructions to patients, she has done it all with a smile and unwavering commitment.
As a former college soccer goalie, Grace, along with Lexxe, led a goalkeeping session for the young girls and boys at our recent soccer camp. We are deeply grateful for Grace’s diverse skills and dedication, and we look forward to welcoming her back to Uganda as a qualified medical doctor to continue serving our community. 🌟⚽❤️
🌟 **Meet Lexxe: A Beacon of Hope for Young Girls in Wairaka Village** 🌟
This is Lexxe, a professional soccer player with an inspiring journey! We first connected in January 2021, thanks to her nana, Ms. Connie. Despite playing in top leagues in Israel, Costa Rica, and Turkey, Lexxe always kept in mind our shared dream of empowering young girls in Uganda through sports (soccer/football).
Although aligning schedules was challenging due to her commitments abroad, this year (2024), everything fell into place. After her season in Turkey, Lexxe joined our volunteer team and traveled to Uganda. Her visit left an indelible mark on the hearts of the children in Wairaka village, especially the young girls who have now found new hope and passion for football.
Lexxe’s legacy in Wairaka is a powerful testament to girl power and the transformative impact of sports across the globe. We are deeply grateful for her dedication and the light she has brought to our community! 🌟⚽❤️
These few dental camp are a to the Hearts of Gold works in village and beyond! Some patients traveled as far as 2 hours to get to dental camp and receive the free services. Thanks for your continued support.
Our students received and tried out their donated toys from the friends of Hearts of Gold all over the US. Many thanks to our friends in Michigan, Ohio, Georgia, and Florida for supporting this beautiful cause!
