Last week YLD Chair Alex Mitchell and Treasurer Ashley Weathers attended the ABA conference on behalf of the members of the YLD. During this conference they voted on several policies that are recommended for legislative changes in both States and on the Federal level. Treasurer Weathers proposed a policy that protects the personal information of prosecutors, public defenders, clerks who are working in Judges due to rise of attacks on the judicial system. The measure was adopted by the ABA YLD.
NBA YLD would like to offer its condolences to the family of Ebonee Sifuentes who unexpectedly passed away this past week. Sifuentes a former Ms. Black Globe Barbados was a pillar in the Phoenix community. She joined us during our 2024 international conference in Barbados where she participated in our community service project. She shared with us how she was delighted to return back to her native country to help with our outreach efforts. From the NBA YLD we would like to thank you for your contributions. Please keep her family and friends in your prayers.

Our Story
The National Bar Association (NBA) was founded in 1925 and is the nation's oldest and largest national network of predominantly African American attorneys and judges.
The NBA Young Lawyers Division (YLD) is the home of the young lawyer within the NBA and represents the interests of young black attorneys under the age of forty years old or originally admitted to practice within the past ten years (whichever is more inclusive).
The 2020-21 NBA YLD theme, “2020 and Beyond: Recognizing the Importance of the Young Lawyer” will be seen throughout seven programmatic areas: (1) Election Protection, Voter Registration, and Education; (2) COVID-19 Recovery Efforts; (3) Efforts to Eliminate Police Brutality; (4) 2020 Census Efforts/Redistricting; (5) Professional and Skills Development; (6) Mental Health and Wellness; and (7) Pipeline Programs and Mentorship Opportunities.
