Disabled Vegan Expo 2024 04/08/2024

๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿฆฝ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿง  Thank you to the over 60 vegan and disability rights advocates who joined us for our first annual Disabled Vegan Expo!

Together, we:

โ€ข celebrated the contributions of disabled vegans to the animal rights movement
โ€ข raised awareness about the connections between ableism and speciesism
โ€ข advanced disability rights within the animal rights movement

We would also like to thank our incredible speakers who made this event possible. Their insightful talks equipped us with crucial knowledge about the underexplored intersection of disability rights and animal liberation, in turn helping us overcome the oppressive forces of both ableism and speciesism.

Thank you all, once more, for making this event a reality. We hope you found it as valuable, instructive, and uplifting as we did.

We look forward to seeing you next year as we continue fighting to build a just, equitable society where everyone can thrive, regardless of ability or species!

What does veganism mean to you?

03/19/2022

Dear friends:

After much deliberation, we have decided to postpone our Worldwide Vegan Climate March to Saturday, September 17th.

There are three major reasons motivating this change. First, COVID-19 continues to rage in countries across the world, even as COVID-19 rates plummet in the US. Second, the war in Ukraine is dominating the news cycle, making it considerably more difficult to attract media attention. And third, we need more time to successfully execute an event of this scale.

With the added time, we will forge partnerships with fellow animal rights organizations, secure endorsements from organizations and individuals, and recruit as many major cities as possible to host their very own Vegan Climate March.

If you were planning to hold your march on April 16th, we recommend postponing your event to Saturday, September 17th, exactly six months from now. You will now have more time to coordinate your event locally and build momentum in the leadup to Saturday, September 17th.

We are grateful for the incredible support you have shown us, and we hope this change does not pose a significant inconvenience to your efforts to organize a Vegan Climate March in your community.

Here's to an even larger, more impactful day of action on September 17th!

๐Ÿฃ๐Ÿฆช๐Ÿค Each year, fishing kills:

โ€ข 300,000 dolphins and whales
โ€ข 350,000 seals
โ€ข 250,000 sea turtles
โ€ข 720,000 sea birds

And these are only indirect deaths caused by โ€œbycatch,โ€ nontarget animals captured by fishing nets. There are an additional 1-3 trillion deaths caused by the fishing industry as a whole each year.

If you care about the conservation of marine wildlife, there is no way to knowingly support this horrifically cruel, environmentally catastrophic industry.

This , please pledge to eat fish-free!

๐Ÿท๐Ÿ““๐ŸŽฏ INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY โฌ‡๏ธโฌ‡๏ธโฌ‡๏ธ

Would you like to gain valuable experience in the nonprofit sector? Are you interested in building a career in animal rights, environmental protection, or social justice advocacy more broadly? Namely, our team at Animal Freedom is currently searching for interns to assist with our marketing, communications, fundraising, campaigns, leadership recruitment, and other operational efforts for the June-December season. As an intern, you would work alongside Kyle Luzynski, our Executive Director, and two exceptional, soon-to-be-determined senior interns.

Here are some of the benefits to interning with us:

โ€ข You will gain valuable experience in the nonprofit sector, which can translate into future employment and career advancement opportunities at both nonprofit organizations and for-profit companies
โ€ข You will build your animal rights, environmental protection, and social justice advocacy credentials, helping you find a highly sought-after career in the movement
โ€ข You will develop skills in your intended career sector, preparing you for your future career and a life of service
โ€ข You will have the opportunity to work with the fastest-growing animal rights organization in the entire Midwest

And, most importantly:

โ€ข You will help us build the mass grassroots movement necessary to enact sweeping change for millions of animals across the Midwest and beyond

But why intern with us when you can intern with other organizations? Here are some reasons why you should prioritize joining our team:

โ€ข We are the only animal rights organization explicitly dedicated to advancing animal rights across the Midwest, the most neglected region for animal advocacy in the US alongside the South
โ€ข We are working to become the fourth major chapter-building organization in the entire animal rights movement, enabling us to spare millions of animals from a lifetime of suffering
โ€ข We have a unique strategy for building the largest, most resilient activist network the animal rights movement has yet seen

๐Ÿ—บ๏ธ๐ŸŒŽ๐Ÿท This , we have a surprise for you: we have at least one supporter on our mailing list in each of the 40 green states featured above! More amazingly still, we have supporters on our mailing list from 29 different countries.

40 states. 29 different countries. We are succeeding in building the grassroots movement it will take to topple the trillion-dollar animal abuse industry from its pedestal of tyranny, but we need your support more than ever.

Given the sheer volume of work we are taking on, our monthly operating costs keep rising. We managed to cut our spending to roughly $500/month toward the end of last year to conserve resources, but our spending has since exploded to roughly $1,000/month to accommodate our rapid growth.

The problem? Most of the expenses we could cut without significant impacts to our activism have already been cut; downsizing would therefore be difficult and potentially devastating.

Fortunately, we do have a solution: our monthly giving program. Through this program, dubbed our Movement Builders Program, you can donate $5, $10, or more per month to support our compelling activism in St. Louis, Springfield, and soon enough far beyond.

Our goal is to start raising $500/month to sustain our most crucial operations, and our eight current Movement Builders contribute a total of $120/month to support our mission of building a fully vegan Midwest by 2056.

Could you pitch in $5, $10, $20, or even $50 a month to ensure our engine for social progress can continue running at full speed by becoming a Movement Builder today? The average donation is $15/month, and you can help us make a world of difference for animals across the Midwest.

Dear friends:

As part of our campaign this month, we have joined hundreds of animal rights organizations around the world in urging people of every background to try veganism.

Not only did we screen Vegan 2020, the latest edition in a five-year series produced by Plant Based News, but we also screened The Invisible Vegan on MLK Day. We have also produced a series of blog posts, from the story of one of our interns who dramatically improved her running endurance after going vegan to the story of another one of our interns whose chronic UTIโ€™s and endometriosis symptoms disappeared completely after making the switch.

Our hope is to inspire as many people to embrace veganism as possible, but we need your support now more than ever. As we work to make the Midwest a more compassionate place for all animals, we invite you to donate on our newly refurbished donation page, linked below.

Project Animal Freedom is 100% volunteer-run and 100% donor-funded. Everything we do is directed toward our overarching mission of building a fully vegan Midwest by 2056, and we could not realize our mission without you. Together, letโ€™s make Veganuary last all year.

Donate โ€” Project Animal Freedom Your support can make a profound difference for dozens if not hundreds of animals simply by donating a fraction of your time, talent, and treasure to the noble cause of animal rights.
