Children's Book Cellar

So, for the second time, one of my FB friends has simply disappeared from my friends list. Neither one of us has blocked the other or changed privacy settings. It's just as if they have totally left FB. I can't find their names to send a friend request. I can't find them listed in the friends lists of mutual friends. WTH? They are both people I would like to share FB posts with and have shared things with regularly until they disappeared. Any ideas?

This is a hard post to write; but, after 22 years at Children's Book Cellar, I'm retiring and, unfortunately, the store is going with me. I've tried to sell; but, for various reasons, several potential buyers have not worked out.

The store will close for regular business hours on Aug 28. I will be in the store (and still in business) from Sept 3 onward until things are wrapped up (probably in Oct), but the hours will be irregular. I am still hoping to sell and a new owner would very likely change the name/focus of the store. Time will tell.

In the meantime, I am here and still well stocked. I'll continue to do special orders as I can (as long as books are readily available).
Please be sure to get in here to use any gift certificates you may have hanging around, as soon as possible.

New confusion.....trying to explain to out-of-towners how to get from Children's Book Cellar to Sunrise Bagel when they are parked on Main St.

Assuming that the forecasts are correct (or at least in the ballpark), Children's Book Cellar will be closed Thursday 4/4/24. Should that change, it will be posted here on FB.

I have water, lanterns, batteries, fully charged devices, plenty of cat and people food. If anything works to keep my power on (and the storm away?) that should do it. 🤞🤞🤞🙄

Exciting news for all home canners!

There's another recommended method for preserving high-acid foods at home - the atmospheric steam canner! This appliance uses steam to preserve foods and has been sufficiently tested by the National Center for Home Food Preservation, and USDA for us to recommend it as an approved way to can high-acid foods.

The atmospheric steam canners tested and recommended are the Back to Basics or Victorio brands. Home canners may use an atmospheric steam canner in pace of a boiling water bath canner for high-acid foods, using a tested recipe. Just like with any preserving method, it's important to follow proper procedures and guidance when using an atmospheric steam canner.

Two important notes when using an atmospheric steam canner: it can only be used for items with 45 minutes or less of processing time, and it's crucial to cool the jars in still air (meaning, not drafty) to ensure proper sealing.

The atmospheric steam canner has the benefit of using less water and therefore less energy. However, it's important to note that it's a specially-designed piece of equipment that needs to be purchased separately.
