several from my walk-a-bout in Dallas, Texas last night.
When I engage in street photography, I find myself at the intersection of capturing the human experience and the urban landscape in which it unfolds. It's an intricate dance that melds the spontaneity of human moments with the structured backdrop of the city. This genre allows me to encapsulate the essence of both individual stories and the grand narrative of urban life, creating a harmonious blend of emotion and environment.
When I frame a shot, I’m not just capturing a scene—I’m distilling the essence of life within the city. The architecture becomes more than just a static backdrop; it transforms into a silent witness to the ebb and flow of daily existence. The streets, buildings, and public spaces intertwine with the human figures that animate them, each element adding depth and context to the other.
This fusion reveals the soul of a city, showcasing its vibrant culture, the rhythm of its daily life, and the unspoken stories of its inhabitants. Through my lens, moments of joy, struggle, solitude, and connection are frozen against the ever-changing canvas of the urban landscape. Street photography, for me, becomes a powerful testament to the beauty of the ordinary and the profound interplay between people and the environments they navigate. It reminds me that every city is a living, breathing entity shaped by the countless individual lives it encompasses, each contributing to the rich tapestry of urban life.
I've been toying with the idea of doing a series of portraits with those willing to let me have artistic freedom over their images. The concept is based on a cyberpunk/futuristic dystopia aesthetic. These started out as regular impromptu shots of Sara Robinson, but it didn’t take long for my highly imaginative ADHD brain to see something more than just the photos I took. This reminded me that I need to do more work that truly reflects my artistic vision and passion based on my imagination. I'm excited to explore this creative direction further and see where it takes me.
Having an artistic eye and a childlike imagination is incredibly important as a photographer. Here’s why:
An artistic eye helps you see the world in a unique way. It’s what allows you to compose shots that are visually striking, using elements like balance, symmetry, and leading lines to create compelling images. It’s about noticing the small details that make a big difference—the play of light and shadow, the texture of surfaces, the subtle expressions on a subject’s face. Understanding color and tone helps you create mood and atmosphere, choosing the right color palette and adjusting hues and saturation to evoke the desired emotions.
With an artistic eye, you’re encouraged to think outside the box, experiment with different angles, perspectives, and techniques, leading to unique and innovative photographs. And sometimes, an artistic eye means knowing when to break away from these conventional rules and take a more unconventional route, creating something truly unexpected and original.
A childlike imagination brings playfulness and curiosity to your work. It helps you explore new ideas, take risks, and discover unexpected beauty in everyday scenes. Imagination is crucial for storytelling through photography, enabling you to create narratives and bring concepts to life, making your photos more engaging and meaningful. It also helps you connect emotionally with your subjects and scenes, translating into more authentic and emotive photographs that resonate with viewers. Imagination allows you to see beyond the mundane and find the extraordinary in ordinary moments, transforming simple scenes into something magical and captivating.
In summary, an artistic eye and a childlike imagination are vital tools for a photographer. They enable you to create visually stunning, emotionally resonant, and uniquely creative photographs that capture the essence of your subjects and tell compelling stories. Embracing these qualities can elevate your work and set you apart in the world of photography.
The old Allied Mills, Inc. building in Fort Worth is a striking relic of the city’s industrial past. Once a bustling grain mill in the mid-20th century, it now stands abandoned, with peeling paint and broken windows that tell a story of its storied history. This site offers a fascinating glimpse into Fort Worth's heritage, capturing the beauty of decay and the passage of time, and holds potential for future redevelopment.
The Fort Worth Cold Storage Company building, also known as the Southwestern Warehouse, is currently abandoned. This historic structure, built in 1928, has seen various uses over the years but is now vacant and no longer in use. The building's distinct Zigzag Moderne architectural style, a subset of Art Deco, makes it a significant landmark in Fort Worth. Despite its abandonment, the building continues to be a point of interest for its historical and architectural value.
The future of the building remains uncertain, with possibilities ranging from renovation and repurposing to potential demolition, depending on various factors such as economic feasibility and urban development plans. Preservation efforts for such historic buildings often depend on advocacy and investment from the community and developers interested in maintaining the city's architectural heritage.

Not able to get the very little amount of lightning there was yesterday evening when this small system passed right by most of us not doing much of anything but it looked fierce and created an amazing sunset. Do everyone get to see it?
The ducks I got sometime after this after the sun was down but had just enough light to capture this cinematic shot. Yes there was only 1 white duck and it seems like the others were following his lead everywhere. Guess he was the leader of their gang.
There's a certain beauty in the forgotten and decaying. This abandoned home on FM 878, between the rapidly growing Waxahachie and the still rural town of Palmer, Texas, left to the elements, tells a story of times past. Its weathered wood, missing windows, and doors stand as a testament to the lives once lived within its walls. As nature reclaims it, we’re reminded of the impermanence of our creations and the quiet elegance that can be found in their decay. Even in its rotting away, this old house holds a charm that new developments can never replicate. Sometimes, it's in the forgotten places where we find the most profound beauty.
An abandoned farmhouse here in Waxahachie, TX at Hwy 287 and 878, soon to be a lost piece of Americana. Sold to a developer and soon to be replaced by modern developments, its history will be erased. These, its final moments, will preserve its legacy. Though the house will be gone, its memory will endure through these images, a testament to a bygone era and the home

So I revisited two portraits I did not long ago and reworked the edits because i felt they would be better off as composites. So viola........... I dig em.....?

I'm on a mission to find and photograph as many abandoned houses as I can tonight. It would be ideal if some were within the direct path of the Milky Way—I'll take care of that. What I need is to be pointed in the right direction. Does anyone know of any places, preferably with some history and age? Abandoned buildings and barns would work too. It's important that these locations are safe—no places where I might encounter trouble. The property must be abandoned or the house needs to be close enough to the road for me to capture, as I currently don't have a zoom lens; my longest focal length right now is an 85mm prime.
Hope everyone is having a good Tuesday. Stay safe and stay cool out there. More importantly stay positive no matter what because ya'll got this.

Brothers....... the oldest just left last week for the navy. We were going to do the shoot at the lake in the water but it was completely crowded that day/evening so I didn't get the kind of water shots I truly wanted but I did capture these brothers hanging out one last time before the oldest shipped off to training, the first adult chapter of his life.

So be a part of a cause that is for the betterment of Ellis county’s wildlife. Like the animals affected by this rapid expansion who suddenly no longer have a home in the wild where they truly prefer to be, or the ones who get hurt or injured because they now have to maneuver around people, construction, and traffic.
